UFC Undisputed 2010 trailer video for upcoming video game release Posted: 08 Dec 2009 04:35 AM PST It doesn't reveal much, but that probably doesn't matter: Thoughts on what you'd like to see different in the latest version? |
Yes! Diego Sanchez is different Posted: 07 Dec 2009 05:09 PM PST Understatement of the year, perhaps:
Can "Nightmare" will himself to victory over BJ Penn at UFC 107 on Dec. 12 or is he delusional ... or both? |
UFC Quick Quote: Kenny Florian has changed for Clay Guida Posted: 07 Dec 2009 02:05 PM PST
-- Former two-time number one lightweight contender, Kenny Florian, tells TSN.ca that he feels reborn after training alongside UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre, and his team of trainers and training partners in Montreal, Quebec. Florian is set to take on Clay Guida at UFC 107 next week, which means that he needs to be in top form to handle the maniacal tempo that the "Carpenter" will likely look to establish early and often during their potential 15-minute clash. Unless, of course, one of them can finish things sooner. Care to take a guess who that might be on Dec. 12, Maniacs? |

Dana White: Dan Henderson wasn't worth the money and brings nothing to the table Posted: 07 Dec 2009 11:15 AM PST Props: MMA Fanhouse Quoteworthy:
UFC President Dana White isn't shedding any tears over the Strikeforce acquisition of free agent and former PRIDE champion Dan Henderson. After five fights under the Zuffa umbrella, "Hendo" signed with the San Jose-based promotion over the weekend and could debut in early 2010 -- though White maintains that his drawing power was not worth the money he wanted to be paid. Will "Dangerous" Dan put asses in the seats when he fights for Scott Coker? Or is the aging Olympian more risk than return? |
UFC fighter salaries and paydays for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale Posted: 07 Dec 2009 11:02 AM PST The official fighter purses for those who competed at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale this past Saturday night (Dec. 5) from the "The Pearl" at The Palms Resort and Casino were released earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). As expected, main event participants and UFC veterans Matt Hamill and Frankie Edgar were the big earners of the night, pulling in $46,000 apiece for taking home the "W" for their winning performances -- though in Hamill's case it was the result of a controversial disqualification of Jon Jones. Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant Kimbo Slice, who was bounced out of the competition by eventual series winner Roy "Big Country" Nelson, raked in a flat fee of $25,000. More than his fellow reality show cohorts, but a far cry for the days of wine and roses in Elite XC. Also bringing in some decent coin was Brian Stann and Mark Bocek. Each fighter laid claim to $30,000 for outlasting their opponents as part of the evening's under card action.. Here is the complete list of the TUF 10 Finale payouts: Roy Nelson: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Brendan Schaub: $8,000 Nelson defeated Schaub via KO (punch) Round 1 Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson: $25,000 (no win bonus) Houston Alexander: $13,000 Slice defeated Alexander via unanimous decision Frankie Edgar: $46,000 ($23,000 to show, $23,000 to win) Matt Veach: $5,000 Edgar defeated Veach via submission (rear naked choke) Round 2 Matt Mitrione: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Marcus Jones: $8,000 Mitrione defeated Jones via TKO (strikes) Round 2 James McSweeney: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Darrill Schoonover: $8,000 McSweeney defeated Schoonover via TKO (strikes) Round 3 Jon Madsen: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Justin Wren: $8,000 Madsen defeated Wren via split decision John Howard: $14,000 ($7,000 to show, $7,000 to win) Dennis Hallman: $15,000 Howard defeated Hallman via KO (punch) Round 3 Brian Stann: $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win) Rodney Wallace: $6,000 Stann defeated Wallace via unanimous decision Mark Bocek: $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win) Joe Brammer: $5,000 Bocek defeated Brammer via submission (rear naked choke) Round 2 Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc. For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for "Fight of the Night," "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night." To check out these figures for the TUF 10 Finale go here. The total base fighter payroll for the Spike TV event, which attracted an official crowd of 1,400 attendees and a live gate of $504,350, was $351,000. WEC 45 video preview for 'Cerrone vs Ratcliff' on Dec. 19 Posted: 07 Dec 2009 11:01 AM PST |
Kimbo Price: Kevin 'Kimbo Slice' Ferguson earns $25,000 for fighting at TUF 10 Finale Posted: 07 Dec 2009 10:22 AM PST The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) released the paydays and salaries for those who competed at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale this past Saturday night (Dec. 5) from the "The Pearl" at The Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former YouTube and EliteXC star (and Ultimate Fighter 10 contestant) Kevin Ferguson earned $25,000 for his unanimous decision win over Houston Alexander on the televised portion of the card of the TUF 10 Finale. "Kimbo Slice" received the 25k as a flat fee and was not awarded a win bonus. We'll pass along the rest of the salaries and paydays for the other 19 fighter competing on the Spike TV event shortly. Now it's time Maniacs, to get your thoughts on the bearded salary. High? Low? Just right? Keep in mind that figure does not include any undisclosed bonuses or incentives. Opinions please. |
Dan Henderson signs with Strikeforce Posted: 07 Dec 2009 09:39 AM PST Get ready, Gegard. Former dual Pride FC middleweight and welterweight champion, Dan Henderson, will debut for the San Jose-based Strikeforce promotion in 2010 after he could not come to agreeable terms on a contract extension with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). MMAmania.com confirmed the signing earlier today. From Henderson via Strikeforce press release:
Henderson (25-7) signed a four-fight, 16-month contract and may debut opposite Jake Shields on a tentatively scheduled CBS card in April 2010, according to Sherdog.com. After knocking out Michael Bisping on the main card of UFC 100 back in July, the Ultimate Fighter Season 9 Coach mentioned numerous times that his goal was to remain a UFC fighter. However, the former number one middleweight contender seemed adamant that in addition to more money, he also wanted another opportunity to challenge reigning division champion, Anderson Silva. The latter didn't seem like a potential deal breaker after White all but assured Henderson he would rematch Silva after putting Bisping down for "The Count" this past summer. However, that was before Silva's manager, Ed Soares, made the case that Henderson should take on Nate Marquardt first to determine a clear-cut contender. In addition, Vitor Belfort -- who lost to Hendo at PRIDE 32 back in Oct. 2006 -- was not yet on the roster. Now with Belfort in the fold and slated to face "The Spider" after he returns from elbow surgery, Hendo's status as a title contender was affected and possibly a significant blow to his bargaining power at the negotiating table. Negotiations with Strikeforce started as early as October, when "Hollywood" had a "conversation" with CEO Scott Coker. Things began picking up speed when Dana White called his negotiations with Henderson "finished" shortly after that. What's done is done. Dan Henderson is now on the Strikeforce roster. Who do you want to see him fight first? |

UFC Quick Quote: TJ Grant knows what's at stake against Kevin Burns at UFC 107 Posted: 07 Dec 2009 09:01 AM PST Props: The Chronicle Herald Quoteworthy:
UFC welterweight TJ Grant knows the value of a win -- or perhaps the cost of a loss that puts you in a 0-2 hole in the UFC, a place his opponent Kevin Burns currently sits coming into UFC 107: "Penn vs. Sanchez" from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee this Saturday, Dec. 12. Grant is trying to erase the memories of a decision loss to "Stun Gun" Kim back at UFC 100 and may have all he can handle against "The Fire," who may be fighting to save his spot on the roster. Expect fireworks as both fighters try to send the other man packing. Predictions? |

Monday Morning Scrap: TUF 10 Finale, K-1 World GP 2009 and MFC 23 weekend in review Posted: 07 Dec 2009 07:33 AM PST The UFC held its Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale in hopes of bringing a definitive conclusion to the tenth season of the Spike TV reality show by pitting Roy Nelson against Brendan Schaub for a shot at the much ballyhooed "six-figure" contract. Mission accomplished. Also making his Octagon debut was the once-maligned YouTube and EliteXC star Kimbo Slice taking on the free-falling Houston Alexander. Slice earned a unanimous decision win after three rounds of playing cat-and-mouse. Of course much of the talk will surround the controversial ending to the Jon Jones vs. Matt Hamill fight -- but lest you think that bizarre endings are a UFC exclusive, MFC 23 had an interesting way of closing out the Jason MacDonald vs. Solomon Hutcherson fight. Also headlining the Canadian card was a battle of ex-UFC middleweights and veteran grappling studs as Dean Lister went toe-to-toe against Thales Leites. Those MMA fans looking for some International flavor got their fill with the HDNet broadcast of the K-1 World GP Final 2009. While the big story coming out of the Japanese event was Semmy Schilt's ascension to the throne, a lot of attention was on Alistair Overeem after the hulking Hollander was stopped by Badr Hari. In cased you missed any or all of it — or just want to keep the discussion alive — below are links to all the major storylines coming out of all three events. Let’s get to it.
