Tickets for UFC 113: "Machida vs. Shogun 2," which is slated for The Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 8, 2010, will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. UFC 113 will be headlined by a rematch between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The card's co-main event is also expected to feature an exciting welterweight match up between perennial top contender, Josh Koscheck, and the explosive Paul Daley. Kimbo Slice is also expected to make his pay-per-view (PPV) debut against fellow TUF 10 cast member, Matt Mitrione. Here is the UFC 113 tickets sales schedule (all times ET):

Vitor Belfort injured and out of UFC 112 title fight with Anderson Silva Posted: 11 Feb 2010 05:45 PM PST Here we go again. The injury bug that bit the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) through early winter has reared its ugly fangs once again. Kevin Iole at Yahoo!Sports.com delivers the sad news.
"The Phenom" and "The Spider" were initially penciled in to collide at UFC 108 earlier this year; however, minor elbow surgery for Silva postponed the Brazilian brawl until UFC 112 at the Concert Arena from Ferrari World, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, on Saturday, April 10. Perhaps it's just not meant to be -- Belfort even seemed uncomfortable with the quick title shot after a first round destruction of former 185-pound division champ Rich Franklin in a 195-pound catchweight fight on Sept. 19, 2009. In fact, he admitted that Nate Marquardt more than likely deserved the nod over him. Nonetheless, he accepted the bout, twice, and both times the plans have had to be scrapped. Waiting in the wings, of course, is Chael Sonnen, who utterly dominated Marquardt at UFC 109: "Relentless" this past weekend; however, he sustained a humongous gash on his forehead during the three-round unanimous decision win and was slapped with a lengthy medical suspension. Sonnen, according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), is not allowed to spar until March 24, giving him little time to truly prepare to battle a worldclass and dangerous opponent such as Silva. Regardless, Sonnen indicated in several post-fight interviews that he would be ready just in case something like this happened. It's a tall order, considering Silva hasn't really lost in more than five years (sans a disqualification loss to Yushin Okami in 2006), and he's essentially obliterated the middleweight division since entering the Zuffa fold in mid 2006. Whether or not the promotion gives him the green light is still up in the air, and more than likely, currently the focus of heated debate in the UFC war room. There are other options, of course. Silva has recently competed against 205-pound fighters to give him more of a challenge. He passed with flying colors, sending former champion Forrest Griffin running for the hills and pasting James Irvin with a highlight-reel, fighting-ending combination. Randy Couture, perhaps? We'll have more on this breaking news as it happens. In the meantime, feel free to play matchmaker in the comments section below. Who ya' got? |
WEC 47 video: Miguel Torres to inflict damage on Joseph Benavidez on March 6 Posted: 11 Feb 2010 05:45 PM PST |
UFC newcomers Jason High and Charlie Brenneman set to battle at UFC Fight Night 21 Posted: 11 Feb 2010 03:10 PM PST Newly signed UFC welterweights Jason High and Charlie Brenneman have agreed to fight at UFC Fight Night 21 from Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., on March 31. High tweeted the news earlier today. "The Kansas City Bandit," owner of a 9-2 career record, was last seen in action competing under the DREAM banner where he fell victim to a highlight reel head kick knockout courtesy of Marius Zaromskis. Prior to that bout, High upset Brazilian jui-jitsu ace Andre Galvao at DREAM 10. High also competed on the Affliction: Day of Reckoning card, getting put to sleep by Jay Hieron. Brenneman (10-1) will bring a strong wrestling base to his Octagon debut. The AMA product, home of brothers Dan and Jim Miller, is a veteran of ShoXC and Ring of Combat, though his claim to fame to this point in his career may just be the fact that he won the first season of Spike TV's "Pros vs. Joes" reality show competition. UFC Fight Night 21 will serve as the lead-in for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 with coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. The card is set to be headlined by an intriguing lightweight match up between top contender Kenny Florian and former Pride FC lightweight champion Takanori Gomi. MMAmania.com will have more news of UFC Fight Night 21 as it becomes available. |
UFC 109 drug test results come back clean from NSAC for 'Relentless' Posted: 11 Feb 2010 11:11 AM PST The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today confirmed that 13 of the 22 competitors who were tested for illegal/banned substances after competing at UFC 109: "Relentless" on Feb. 6 have all passed with flying colors. Main event participants and former UFC heavyweight champions Randy Couture and Mark Coleman as well as Nate Marquart, Chael Sonnen, Paulo Thiago, Demian Maia, Matt Serra, Mac Danzig, Phil Davis, Chris Tuchsherer, Joey Beltran, Melvin Guillard and Rob Emerson were all screened for performance enhancers such as steroids and drugs of abuse like cocaine and marijuana, among others. Results from these battery of tests all returned negative. The fighters mentioned above were randomly selected. However, athletic commissions typically test the main event participants and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed drug tests in the past. UFC 109: "Relentless" featured Randy "The Natural" Couture putting a lopsided beatdown on fellow forty-something Hall-of-Famer Mark "The Hammer" Coleman en route to a second round submission win. In middleweight action, Chael Sonnen upset Nate "The Great" Marquardt to steal the 185-pound number one contender spot and a chance to challenge the winner of Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort in late 2010. Evan Dunham, if you're listening, keep winning ... Posted: 11 Feb 2010 10:50 AM PST ... because Efrain Escudero is coming after you.
"Hencho en Mexico" tells Tapology.com that he's on his way back to the UFC after a gruesome armbar submission loss to Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night 20 last month that saw the Oregon grappler push his undefeated streak to 10 wins. Escudero wants a rematch but must first get through his next opponent, rumored to be Dan Lauzon at UFC 114 in May. |
WEC Quick Quote: Miguel 'Mexican Dude' Torres talks tacos, hockey and Hanukkah Posted: 11 Feb 2010 09:54 AM PST
Former 135-pound kingpin Miguel Torres talks to Heavy.com about his recent promotional tour to promote his upcoming WEC 47 bout against Joseph Benavidez on March 6. Torres is re-inventing himself after a stunning defeat at the heavy hands of new bantamweight champion Brian Bowles at WEC 42 back in August 2009. Will Torres get his revenge? Or has his storied championship reign come to an end, much like Urijah Faber's did at WEC 36 now that the WEC has a stacked roster? What say you? |

Phillipe Nover released from the UFC following his Feb. 6 loss to Rob Emerson Posted: 11 Feb 2010 07:59 AM PST It seems that Ultimate Fighter 8 finalist Phillipe Nover isn't the next Anderson Silva after all. Despite a very impressive run on the eighth season of the Spike TV reality show, the "The Filipino Assassin" was unable to find a win in three attempts since his Dec. 2008 debut and has been subsequently released from his UFC contract according to Heavy.com. And aside from the losses, there were a few behind the scenes shenanigans that raised a few eyebrows from the mixed martial arts community as well. Nover suffered what was initially reported as a seizure in the locker room at UFC Fight Night 19 back on Sept. 16, forcing the cancellation of his undercard bout against Sam Stout. It wasn't the first time the former Brooklyn nurse parted ways with his consciousness — he lost his legs on the very first episode of TUF 8. Following the incident, he was medically cleared to fight and re-booked against fellow TUF alum Rob Emerson at UFC 109 earlier this month; however, "The Saint" gave him all he could handle for three rounds, taking the unanimous decision victory and effectively handing Nover his pink slip. "The Filipino Assassin" has established a name for himself through his fighting endeavors and will likely have no problem finding work on the independent circuit. He was 4-0 under the Ring of Combat banner prior to joining the UFC. In addition, he's enjoyed a successful career as a nurse and prior to "Relentless" didn't ruled out a return to that profession if things didn't pan out inside the cage. |
UFC 114: Amir Sadollah vs Dong Hyun Kim on tap for May 29 Posted: 11 Feb 2010 07:25 AM PST Electrifying welterweight strikers Amir Sadollah (3-1) and Dong Hyun Kim (12-0-1) have agreed to throw leather on the upcoming UFC 114 fight card, tentatively scheduled for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 29 according to MMAWeekly. After more than a year on the sidelines, Sadollah finally got back into the cage at UFC 101 last September in his welterweight debut. Unfortunately his return was short lived after Johnny Hendricks put him down in the first round. The loss didn't seem to bother him much, as he came firing back and put an ass whooping on veteran Phil Baroni at UFC 106 just two months later. The Ultimate Fighter 7 champ quickly made it two in a row, again dominating his opponent at UFC Fight Night 20 when he gave Brad Blackburn three rounds of hell just last month. Now Sadollah gets to prove his merit in a very crowded division against the tough-as-nails Korean. "Stun Gun" scored a unanimous decision win over Brazilian jiu-jitsu stylist TJ Grant at UFC 100: "Lesnar vs. Mir 2" back in July 2009. The convincing victory over the Canadian was important because Kim had previously been involved in two close matches that could have gone either way. He was originally penciled in to butt heads with Chris Lytle "Down Under" at UFC 110, but was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury. UFC 114 will feature the long overdue light heavyweight grudge match between bitter rivals and former TUF 10 coaches "Suga'" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Also on tap for the main card is the return of Diego Sanchez to the welterweight division opposite John Hathaway. Keep it locked in to MMAmania for future updates to this still-developing fight card. |
Stephan Bonnar: Mark Coleman was beat before he entered the cage Posted: 11 Feb 2010 06:55 AM PST Props: Jon Lane's World Quoteworthy:
"The American Psycho" weighs in on the losing performance of Mark Coleman, who came up empty against fellow 40-something Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 109 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center back on Feb. 6. Bonnar may have the dubious honor of being the last man to lose to "The Hammer" now that the former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight has been released from his Zuffa contract -- unless of course he returns to Japan to open a few Japanese tomato cans. Anyone think Coleman will keep fighting? |

UFC Quick Quote: Everyone knows Chael Sonnen is the toughest guy in the room Posted: 11 Feb 2010 06:03 AM PST
-- Toast of the MMA town, number one middleweight contender Chael Sonnen, appeared on Pro MMA Radio this past Monday following his career defining victory over Nate Marquardt at UFC 109. And wouldn't you know it, the guy provided us with yet another great sound byte! This time, he tries to get the point across that the media, and everybody who isn't a fighter for that matter, has it all wrong when to comes to determining the sport's best fighters. We should be asking the fighters themselves. Of course we should, it's not like they would have a bias opinion or anything. Mr. Sonnen also shares some inside information with us regarding the UFC's heavyweight division. Apparently, everyone "in the back" knows that Cain Velasquez is the best guy out there. But you probably knew that already, right? Is Sonnen on the verge of completely losing his mind, or is he actually on to something and the rest of us just don't know it yet? Sound off, Maniacs. |
"Sexy" fate potentially awaits the winner of Silva-Bisping clash at UFC 110? Posted: 11 Feb 2010 05:38 AM PST The winner of the impending clash between Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping at UFC 110 may face Yoshihiro "Sexyama" Akiyama in his next fight, according to Fighters Only Magazine. Bisping recently emerged victorious over Denis Kang at UFC 105 to atone for his highlight-reel knockout loss to Dan Henderson at UFC 100. Should he dispatch both Silva and Akiyama, the British middleweight likely will position himself as one of the top contenders in the division. On the other hand, a source in Las Vegas states that, should Silva triumph over Bisping, UFC would like to stage Silva-Akiyama in Japan. UFC's expansion into Japan has been relatively dormant because of the difficulty of entering the established market currently under the stranglehold of FEG-owned DREAM. Nevertheless, Silva-Akiyama can potentially give UFC a much-needed jolt of momentum, given the level of recognition the two fighters enjoy in Japan. Silva had earned a superstar status in Japan during his long reign of terror as the middleweight king in Pride FC. Akiyama, on the other hand, has established himself as an ultimate "heel" in Japan in the wake of greasing allegation in his fight against Kazushi Sakuraba in K-1 Hero's. A fight between these former mainstays in Japanese MMA promises to seize the attention of Japanese MMA fans. |
Damacio Page vs. Antonio Banuelos inked for WEC 48 Posted: 11 Feb 2010 04:57 AM PST The surging bantamweights, Damacio Page and Antonio Banuelos, will collide on the WEC's first pay-per-view card. Banuelos, a long-time training partner of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Chuck Liddell, also rides a two-fight winning streak. In his last two appearances at WEC 44 and WEC 41, he has edged Kenji Osawa and Scott Jorgensen, respectively, in fierce, three-round wars. |
