Rampage Jackson: 'I'm going to come back to the UFC'

Posted: 04 Dec 2009 12:25 AM PST

That's the latest in this ongoing soap opera. From RampageJackson.com:

"I've noticed that the UFC & TUF have some fans brainwashed or something. They still haven't realized yet that the TV show is just a TV show. I did my job by entertaining people and if you ever paid any attention to me, that's what I'm known for doing. Now, I wanted to let my fans know that I'm going to come back to the UFC & finish my contract. Not because the haters are talking shit about me being scared of Rashad or Titties or anybody else. I'm coming back for my fans & to shut Rashad's mouth up & shut Dana's mouth up. Then after that I'm going back to doing movies & I might do a boxing match once a year just to stay in shape. Hate on dis!"

Disgruntled former light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson -- who announced his premature retirement from the sport not to long ago -- now reveals his new limited future fight plans. Perhaps it's no coincidence that the recent season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which he served as coach opposite Rashad Evans, recently came to an end. Jackson and Evans were constantly at each others throats, making their eventual clash seem absolutely necessary to settle the score once and for all. Evans is now booked to fight Thiago Silva in the UFC main event on Jan. 2, 2010, while Jackson completes his role as B.A. Barracus on the set of the "A-Team." Score one for UFC President Dana White, who predicted "Rampage" would return sooner rather than later. He and his producers now have even more drama to promote this showdown ... not like they needed it.

Kimbo Slice vs Houston Alexander odds and all betting lines for TUF 10 Finale

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 07:32 PM PST

We're now just a few days away from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale, which is scheduled for the "The Pearl" from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.

And even though we've had a pretty good idea about how the fight card would shape up, the promotion didn't officially reveal it until after the conclusion of "The Heavyweights" season last night.

That means TUF 10 Finale odds and betting lines are fresh, providing you with an opportunity to cash-in on the action if you see a juicy spread.

Of course, Kimbo Slice, making his official UFC debut, is the major focus of the Spike TV event. He takes on veteran slugger Houston Alexander in a 215-pound catch weight special attraction.

Slice, who made a name for himself beating up cans in Miami, Fla., backyards, is a fairly sizable underdog. He's obviously improved his skills since making the transition to mixed martial arts a few years ago; however, is it enough to topple the father of six?

If you're confident the answer is "yes," then you stand to make a handsome sportsbook profit.

But that's not all. Not even close.

Here are the latest TUF 10 Finale odds (- = favorite; + = underdog):

UFC Quick Quote: Matt Hughes needs to fight top guys to earn title shot

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 06:42 PM PST

Matt_hughes_medium

"[American Kickboxing Academy] has been asking for that fight for a very long time, and that fight is continually not made to happen or isn't allowed to happen. And he's publicly said that we're [Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Mike Swick} not big enough names and that we're not important enough for him to fight us. It kinda rubs us the wrong way. If you're trying to be a contender and you're trying to earn a title shot, then you need to fight the top guys. And Matt doesn't want to fight us.... I have no problem with [Matt Hughes] headlining cards with dream matchups against guys that people want to see him fight. If it's not for high rankings or a title shot, I don't see a problem with it. But he's not admitting to that. He's trying to say that he's still one fight away from a title shot. He wants to fight for the title. But if he's going to fight for the title, he has to put in the work. He has to fight the guys who are standing in line in front of him. But if he wants to fight someone like Renzo Gracie? I think that's a great fight. I'd love to see that fight. It's cool, you know? But don't make statements like you're still number two in the world and your next fight should be for the title."

-- Former number one welterweight contender, Jon Fitch, provides Heavy.com with more background regarding former 170-pound champion, Matt Hughes, and his apparent lack of interest in fighting anyone from the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) camp. Koscheck and Swick have verbally called out Hughes on numerous occasions, while Fitch has kept silent for the most part. Hughes recently revealed that he will likely return to the Octagon on April 10, 2010. He didn't mention his opponent; however, speculation has swirled that Renzo Gracie will likely get the nod. It's a fight between two legends of the sport, as well as a revenge match of sorts for Gracie, who is very close with Hughes' nemesis, Matt Serra. Hughes defeated Serra in his most recent performance via unanimous decision earlier this year. Prior to the win, Hughes dropped back-to-back fights to top division players, Georges St. Pierre and Thiago Alves. Fitch, meanwhile, is booked to compete against relative unknown, Mike Pierce, at UFC 107 on Dec. 12 after "The Pitbull" was forced to withdraw from a highly anticipated rematch because of an injury. So will Hughes feel the pressure to one day compete against Fitch, Koscheck or Swick, or can he make one final run to the top without them?

MFC 23 quick preview and predictions for 'Unstoppable' on Dec. 4

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 12:55 PM PST

Dean_lister_boogeyman_medium

The twenty third installment of Mark Pavelich's Canadian-based Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) is set to air live on HDNet Fights tomorrow night (Friday, Dec. 4) from the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

MFC 23: "Unstoppable" will feature a main event match up of former UFC middleweights Thales Leites and Dean "The Boogeyman" Lister, as the promotion continues its search for a 185-pound champion.

Co-headlining the event is another top notch middleweight tilt between ex-UFC fighters in the hunt for the vacant MFC title, as Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald and "The Ultimate Fighter" season three alum, Solomon Hutcherson, are set for battle.

To help get you better prepared for the action, we provide a little analysis and a few predictions for these two highly anticipated middleweight bouts.

Check it out below:

Thales Leites (14-3) vs. Dean "The Boogeyman" Lister (11-6)

This is a match up of absolute studs in terms of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Both men come highly decorated, including an ADCC championship for Lister in 2003.

Often times when two strong jiu-jitsu players like this get paired against each other, the fight ends up turning into a stand up battle, especially when they both have a good amount of experience in mixed martial arts like these two do.

Since neither fighter is anything special in the striking department, there's a good chance that's exactly what's going to happen in this fight, too. The reason I say that is because both of these guys are probably looking at the other's striking as their weakness. And both have enough experience in the sport to probably think their own striking can get the job done without having to flip coins on the ground with a fellow world class grappler.

However, the longer this fight goes on, and the more tired each man gets, the likelihood of these guys reverting to their base goes up.

Look for a lot of stand up exchanges in the early going with Leites having a slight edge. He shouldn't be judged too harshly on the Anderson Silva debacle, because afterall, it's Anderson Silva. Dean Lister's striking poses nowhere near the same threat, which should allow Leites to develop more of a comfort zone on his feet.

If and when the fight hits the mat, however, expect nothing more than a stalemate. These guys have rolled with world class jiu jitsu practitioners most of their lives, and it's unlikely either will be able to submit the other unless one of them gets hurt or very tired.

I have Leites earning a unanimous decision here with a better stand up attack early on and more cardio to carry him through the later rounds.

Final prediction: Thales Leites via unanimous decision

Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald (21-13) vs. "King" Solomon Hutcherson (11-5)

MacDonald, who was once dubbed "The TUF Killer," will get another shot at a former contestant on the UFC's reality show in this fight. And he shouldn't have too much of a problem living up to that nickname.

"King" Solomon did a decent job of fending off a submission attack in his debut for MFC back in February, earning a decision win over Dave Mewborn. But Jason MacDonald will provide a much stiffer overall attack in this fight.

Even though MacDonald has dropped 6 of his past 9 fights, he's still faced much better competition than Hutcherson and he still has a much better skill set and killer instinct.

Coming off 3 straight losses also means this is a must win fight for "The Athlete," and that spells bad news for Hutcherson as well. He finished his last fight against Travis Lutter on a strong note, but an extremely slow start was too much to overcome.

I see him jumping on Hutcherson with his aggression right from the get go in this fight though. Solomon has good power and some decent ground and pound, but that isn't anything MacDonald hasn't seen before. He can't be tentative in this fight. He needs to attack right from the start.

If he sticks to that plan, then he's going to come away with a win in this fight, either by TKO or submission. He's nicknamed "The Athlete" for a reason. He's deceptively strong and very fast for a 185 pounder, and he has a wide variety of ways to finish fights.

He should be better than Hutcherson in pretty much every area of the fight, but once the action goes to the ground, it'll be only a matter of time before the TUF killer scores another submission win.

Final prediction: Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald via submission in round two

Here's the full lineup for MFC 23: "Unstoppable:"

Thales Leites (14-3) vs. Dean "The Boogeyman" Lister (11-6)
Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald (21-13) vs. "King" Solomon Hutcherson (11-5)
Bryan "The Beast" Baker (10-1) vs. Art "Pachuco" Santore (18-6)
Ryan "Big Deal" Jimmo (11-1) vs. Emanuel "The Hardcore Kid" Newton (12-5-1)
Marvin "The Beastman" Eastman (16-11-1) vs. Dwayne Lewis (9-4)
Joe Christopher (8-2) vs. Jesse Juarez (11-5)
Ryan Fortin (3-1) vs. Nick Penner (8-1)
Ryan Machan (9-3) vs. "Ragin" Kajan Johnson (17-10-1)

That's a wrap. Make sure you check out the action tomorrow night on HDNet Fights and keep it locked to MMAmania.com for our recap and analysis of all the action.

Matt Mitrione plans on showing Marcus Jones 'The Darkness' on Dec. 5

Quoteworthy:

"My focus has been on submission and takedown defense, not lunging into my straight left and keeping the tempo of the fight in mind. Knowing the tempo makes me very dangerous. I train to be (a) champion. I made plenty of mistakes and have made strides from my last fight. I'm looking forward to making things happen on Saturday. It'll be an emotion-filled fight. He's going to close the distance on me and I'm going to punch him really hard in the face when he tries."

Former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle, Matt Mitrione, plans on giving Marcus "Big Baby" Jones something to cry about when they meet at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale this Saturday (Dec. 5) live from "The Pearl" at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Meathead" sent Jones into a tailspin after an inadvertent eye poke forced Jones-buddy Scott Junk into eye surgery. While no punches were thrown, the incident -- coupled with some less-than-flattering text messages about the big man's chin -- irked Jones to the point of retribution. Will he get it? Or will the hard-hitting Mitrione send him into retirement?

This one-night, 8-man tournament will crown the world's best striker LIVE on HDNet - Saturday, December 5 at 3:00 a.m. ET with replay at 11:00 p.m. ET

DALLAS (December 1, 2009) HDNet will feature LIVE coverage of "HDNet Fights Presents: FieLDS K-1 World GP 2009 Final," from the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan on Saturday, December 5 at 3:00 a.m. ET.

The 17th annual edition of the prestigious tournament features one of the deepest fields in K-1 history including two former 3-time K-1 World Grand Prix Champions - defending Champion Remy Bonjasky and K-1 Super Heavyweight Champion Semmy Schilt.

The event also features Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, and the man many consider the uncrowned king of K-1, 2008 tournament runner-up Badr Hari. In 2008, Bonjasky and Hari stormed to the finals, each scoring TKO's in the quarterfinals and knockouts in the semifinals. The title bout ended in controversy as Hari was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct following a stomp on the downed Bonjansky, rendering him unable to continue.

Following the fight Hari claimed that Bonjasky was acting and that his corner told him stay down in order to collect an easy victory. The two men hope to settle the score in the finals on December 5, but first they have to get through six of the best strikers in the world who happen to be standing in their way.

"If you haven't been watching K-1, tune into the K-1 World Finals and I guarantee you won't be disappointed," said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights. "These are THE best strikers in the world - watch exclusively on HDNet as one man must win three fights in one night to take home the winner's check for $400K!"

In quarter-final action, Hari (14-5, 12(T)KO) meets Ruslan Karaev (12-7, 6(T)KO), Overeem (2-2, 1(T)KO) faces Ewerton Teixeira (8-1, 2(T)KO), Schilt (29-3-1, 14(T)KO) tangles with Jerome Le Banner (47-18-1, 32(T)KO), and Bonjasky (37-10, 17(T)KO) begins his title defense versus Errol Zimmerman (7-2, 3(T)KO).

The winners of Hari/Karaev-Overeem/Teixeira and Schilt/Le Banner-Bonjasky/Zimmerman will meet in the semi-finals with the winners advancing to fight for the title.

In tournament reserve bouts, 3-time Grand Prix Champion Peter Aerts (62-23, 55(T)KO) squares off with Gokhan Saki (9-4, 5(T)KO) and Daniel Ghita (3-1, 3(T)KO) meets Sergey Kharitonov (6-7, 3(T)KO).

Kimbo Slice: People judged me before they even got to know me

Quoteworthy:

"It’s just like when you were a kid with your parents, depending on what type of parents you had, but definitely your teachers, they kinda teach you to never judge a book by its cover. I guess I was the complete opposite of everyone’s impression of me. They kinda judged me before they even got to know me, but I didn’t go into the house trying to portray someone that I’m not. What you see is what you get, camera on or camera off, I’m a real dude. My kids know that about me, my friends know that about me, and putting me in that house and after putting the cameras on us 24 hours a day, now the fans are able to know that about me. I’m a real guy. The same guy you see in the street, that’s the guy you saw in the house. And that’s one of the things that people are able to relate to. I’m not phony."

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (3-1), who will make his first official appearance inside the Octagon at Saturday's Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale against Houston Alexander, talks about the battle to overcome the public's perception of him as he entered the TUF house to compete with 15 other contestants for a shot at UFC stardom. UFC President White had lambasted Slice while he competed under the Elite XC banner, feeling he did not deserve all the promotion and hype as a top fighter in the sport just because of his reputation as a backyard brawler in the mean streets of Miami. Slice however, changed a lot of people's opinions with his down-to-earth personality and humble approach to the fight game. Did he change yours?

UFC Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Finale line up and fight card finalized for Dec. 5

Posted: 03 Dec 2009 07:53 AM PST

Tuf10_finale_medium_medium

After months of speculation and weekly teases, the UFC has finalized the line up and fight card for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale, set to take place at "The Pearl" from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, December 5, 2009.

Former IFL champion Roy Nelson and undefeated Greg Jackson disciple Brendan Schaub were the last two standing out of a field of 16 hungry heavyweights on the Spike TV reality show and will face off for a chance to earn a "six-figure contract" and TUF bragging rights this Saturday night.

Of course, the ratings bonanza surrounding the much ballyhooed inclusion of former YouTube sensation and Elite XC star Kimbo Slice was enough to get him a spot on the televised card against the furious fists of Houston Alexander.

Former contestants Marcus Jones, Darrill Schoonover and Justin Wren will also be in action, joining Matt Mitrione, Justin Wren and Jon Madsen in a second attempt at UFC stardom.

Last but certainly not least will be a light heavyweight war featuring Jon "Bones" Jones as he inches his way closer to title contention against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.

Here’s the complete TUF 10 Finale fight card:

Main event:

205 lbs.: Matt "The Hammer" Hamill (7-2) vs. Jon "Bones" Jones (9-0)

Main card (Televised):

265 lbs.: Roy "Big Country" Nelson (14-4) vs. Brendan Schaub (4-0)
215 lbs.: Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (3-1) vs. Houston "The Assassin" Alexander (8-4-1)
155 lbs.: Frankie "The Answer" Edgar (10-1) vs. Matt Veach (11-0)
265 lbs.: Marcus "The Darkness" Jones (4-1) vs. Matt Mitrione (0-0)

Under card (May not be broadcast):205 lbs.: Brian Stann vs. Rodney Wallace

265 lbs.: James "The Machine" McSweeney (3-4) vs. Darrill Schoonover (10-0)
265 lbs.: Jon Madsen (1-0) vs. Justin Wren (6-1)
170 lbs.: Dennis "Superman" Hallman (41-12-2) vs. John "Doomsday" Howard(12-4)
155 lbs.: Mark Bocek (7-2) vs. Joe "The Southside Strangler" Brammer (7-0-1)
185 lbs.: Brian "All American" Stann (7-2) vs. Rodney "Shonuff The Master" Wallace (9-0)

All fights officially confirmed by UFC.com

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Saturday, Dec. 5), which is slated to air at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV from the Palms Casino Resort. The latest quick updates of the live action will begin to flow earlier than that around 7 p.m. ET with the prelim bouts.

It’s going to be a fun night of fights so don’t miss it. And remember to check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight TUF 10 Finale coverage you can handle.

UFC Quick Quote: Houston Alexander would make a great babysitter

"My jiu-jitsu has gotten a lot better. My grappling has gotten a lot better. I want to be a complete MMA fighter. When your kids come to wake you up and you start choking out your kids, that's when you know you have it right."

Aging super-slugger Houston Alexander talks to "Inside The Ultimate Fighter" about his Dec. 5 showdown against TUF 10 contestant and former Elite XC star Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson. Despite his devastating knockout power that put both Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara on queer street, "The Assassin" has been railed for his inability to defend himself on the ground, making him Octagon chum for any fighter with serviceable grappling skills. So too, has Slice been criticized for leaving the mixed out of his martial arts. While everyone expects a stand-up battle with a quick finish, Alexander cautions that he's been diligently working his jiu-jitsu and will enter the cage this Saturday night a more complete fighter. Just ask his kids -- assuming they've regained consciousness.
