UFC 111: Matt Riddle vs Ricardo Funch booked for March 27

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 alum Matt Riddle (3-1) has been added to the preliminary card of the upcoming UFC 111 event opposite Ricardo Funch (7-1) for the promtion's return trip to The Prudential Center on March 27 in Newark, NJ.

Team Link instructor Marco Alvan confirmed the bout earlier today.

During the Spike TV reality show, Riddle immediately made a name for himself by turning Dan Simmler inside-out via crushing knockout. It was a highlight reel finish that propelled him into the next round; however, his inexperience was exposed after getting submitted by eventual finalist, Tim Credeur.

Unfazed, Riddle found success inside the Octagon early and often, winning three out of his first four UFC fights since his professional debut at TUF 7 Finale, a unanimous decision win over rival house member Dante Rivera.

He followed that up with judge's nods over Steve Bruno (Fight Night 17) and Dan Cramer (UFC 101) before Nick Osipzcak put a violent end to his hot streak via technical knockout at UFC 105 last November.

Like his run in the TUF house, he now has a chance to rebound on March 27 and get back to his winning ways.

Standing in his way is "The Golden Boy," who like Riddle, didn't have the outcome he was hoping for in his last fight.

Funch's UFC dream began while watching the legendary Royce Gracie effortlessly dominate the competition in early days of the sport with his unique brand of jiu-jitsu. He began to train locally and his since earned his purple belt while training at Team Link, which is run by former number one heavyweight contender, Gabriel Gonzaga.

Remarkably, he's been able to do it all in just four years of training.

His connections at Team Link helped fast-track him to a four-fight contract in the welterweight division with a UFC 107 debut opposite Johnny Hendricks. Unfortunately the wrestling phenom spoiled the Brazilian's debut, outworking him en route to a unanimous decision win just last month.

The defeat snapped an impressive seven-fight winning streak, one Funch hopes to begin anew come March 27.

UFC 111 will feature a 170-pound title defense by promotion superstar Georges St. Pierre as "Rush" answers the call of British striker Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. Heavyweights Frank Mir and Shane Carwin are also set to collide in an interim title match while Brock Lesnar recovers from recent surgery.

5150 Combat: Alexander falls, Clementi rolls at 'New Year's Revolution' in Tulsa

Late last night (Jan. 16, 2010), Midwest-based mixed martial arts promotion, 5150 Combat, held its turn-of-the-year event, "New Year's Revolution." at the Spirit Bank Event Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The promotion pulled out all the stops for the show, featuring numerous ex-UFC fighters on the card, including main event participant, Houston Alexander, who was fresh off his lackluster losing performance against Kimbo Slice at the The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale last month, signed on to scrap with hard hitting knockout artist, Joey "The Mexicutioner" Beltran.

The Nebraska native was able to avoid a knockout against Slice, but all the "defense" in the world wasn't going to stop Beltran from getting the stoppage.

Where Kimbo was ineffective in his ability to close the distance on his feet with Alexander, "The Mexicutioner" had no trouble, erasing that distance by taking Alexander to the mat and smothering him with ground and pound. Alexander weathered a nasty storm to survive the first round, but he couldn't make it through the second, succumbing to strikes midway through the frame.

The win marks Beltran's ninth career (technical) knockout.

Ex-Zuffa employees Rich "No Love" Clementi (UFC) and Mike Budnik (WEC) squared off for their new organization's lightweight championship belt.

The fight was back and forth for the majority of the five rounds before the submission specialist, Clementi, locked in his eighteenth career submission victory, finishing off a game Budnik with a rear naked choke.

Three other titles were also decided on the night.

Gary Frazier captured the heavyweight crown by stopping Ray Clayton with strikes in the fourth round. And former UFC light heavyweight Tim Boetsch is now the 5150 Combat 205 pound champion after submitting Rudy Lindsey in the second round with a guillotine.

In other action, Amber Powell claimed the female atomweight belt when she submitted Tammy Schneider with a first round armbar.

Former UFC top heavyweight contender Jeff Monson also competed on the main card, making his first appearance since dropping a decision to Pedro Rizzo back in September. "The Snowman" eked out a razor close split decision over dangerous up-and-comer, Scott Barrett.

Check out the full results from "New Year's Revolution" below:

Joey Beltran defeated Houston Alexander via technical knockout in round two
Jeff Monson defeated Scott Barrett via split decision
Rich Clementi defeated Mike Budnik via submission in round five
Tim Boetsch defeated Rudy Lindsey via submission in round two
Jeremy Horn defeated Victor Moreno via submission in round one
Chris Davis defeated Brad Imes via technical knockout in round one
Gary Frazier defeated Ray Clayton via technical knockout in round four
Preston Snook defeated Justin McCorkle via submission in round two
Keith Miner defeated Robert Jamerson via submission in round one
Ken Jackson defeated John Kirk via submission in round one
Daniel Roberts defeated Anthony Macias via submission in round one
Shane Howell defeated Lewis McKenzie via technical knockout in round one

That's a wrap from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Keep it locked on MMAmania.com.
