Yoshiyuki Yoshida vs. Mike Guymon on tap for UFC 113 preliminary card

A welterweight match-up between Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida (11-4) and Mike "Joker" Guymon (11-3-1) is being finalized for the preliminary card for UFC 113 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Both fighters have consented to the fight, and the official bout agreement is expected to follow shortly.

Heading into the bout, Yoshida, a decorated judoka-turned-mixed-martial-artist, finds himself in a "do-or-die" situation with a 2-2 record in UFC.

In his most recent fight, he suffered a KO loss to the hulking welterweight, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson at UFC 104. He also fell victim to a highlight-reel knockout by Josh Koscheck at "UFC - Fight for the Troops" in December, 2008. Meanwhile, he holds victories over War Machine and Brandon Wolff during his UFC tenure.

Prior to signing with UFC, Yoshida became the welterweight champion in the Japanese-based Cage Force. There, he defeated Akira Kikuchi and current UFC welterweight title contender, Dan Hardy (via DQ).

Former King of the Cage welterweight champion, Mike "Joker" Guymon, stumbled in his UFC debut in January when he succumbed to the Canadian young gun, Rory MacDonald. A veteran fighter who made his MMA debut in 1999, Guymon seeks to solidify his footing in UFC with a win over Yoshida.

Terror Squad: Matt Serra UFC 109 interview exclusive with MMAmania.com

Serra-tokyo_medium

Just two fights ago, Matt Serra (9-6) was UFC welterweight champion of the world. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Renzo Gracie had scored big by winning the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "The Comeback," then surprising most by TKOing Georges St. Pierre in the first round of the young champion's first-ever title defense.

But that was a long time ago.

Now 35 years old and coming off back-to-back losses, "The Terror" is fully content with taking his career one fight at a time.

He'll look to get back to his winning ways at UFC 109: "Relentless" this Saturday, February 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

Standing in the opposite corner will be another veteran coming off a tough loss. Frank Trigg (19-7), himself a former two-time challenger for the title, is 37 years old and admits this is, in all likelihood, his last run at glory. A second degree black belt in Judo, "Twinkle Toes" was welcomed back to the Octagon, after four years fighting in outside promotions, by Josh Koscheck at UFC 103: "Franklin vs. Belfort."

And it wasn't the welcome he'd wanted. It's never nice being on someone else's knockout highlight reel.

Trigg has his eyes set on Saturday night as perhaps the last "make or break" fight of his career, if things don't go his way, admitting he'll likely be cut from the UFC if he loses back-to-back fights, and that means retirement soon after.

Although he doesn't put himself in the same boat, Serra understands the importance of winning this fight if he ever wants a rematch against arch rival Matt Hughes, who came out on the winning end of their close unanimous decision at UFC 98: "Evans vs. Machida."

We recently caught up with the New Yorker to ask what he makes of his opponent's trash talking, gauge how important a rematch against Hughes is, and get his opinion on if Hughes is dodging AKA welterweights, Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Mike Swick, all of whom have called out the future Hall of Famer.

And surprising to everyone - including himself - Serra sticks up for Hughes.

Let's get after it.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): You last fought Matt Hughes to a close, but unanimous decision loss - also the Fight of the Night. I know you disagree with the judges and asked for a rematch. Were you surprised the UFC didn't offer you a rematch given how close the fight was?

Matt Serra: Was I surprised? No, I guess it was kind of up to Hughes and he said he wanted to move along. You know, what are you gonna do? You can't just bitch about it. We move on. I would have liked to have a rematch. I thought it was an extremely close fight. It should have had a clear-cut winner, rather than just an opinion as a result, you know?

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Given how much Hughes' has accomplished in the sport, do you think that can kinda weigh in on some judges' decisions when scoring a fight? Meaning, do you think it's possible to win a decision against Hughes?

Matt Serra: You know, I really don't know. I think answering that could be like sour grapes. I'll say this much. Before the fight, some people - the critics can be pretty brutal - but some guys thought I was a fluke. They thought I had a fluke win over GSP and I never belonged in there with Matt Hughes.

And even though I didn't get the decision, you can't look at that fight and say I didn't belong in there with the guy. You gotta look at that fight and say, "Hey, that fight coulda went either way." So if anything, at least it showed, hey, you know, I'm not no one-hit wonder.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): You're now set to take on former two-time title challenger Frank Trigg. There's been a little bit of a war of words between the two of you. I believe Trigg called you an "angry midget," and you called him a "bad professional wrestler."

Matt Serra: (laughing) Yeah, he comes off like that bad professional wrestler schtick. Awful.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): He's said that he just trash talks to make the fight more interesting for the fans. Is that true for you, or is there any bad blood there?

Matt Serra: Nah, I mean is it (like) me and Hughes? Is it what we had? Nah, it's not as personal. But him saying that kinda like defeats the whole purpose. What are you sayin', dude? Do you mean it or not?

I react. I'm not the guy that usually initiates, you know what I mean? A guy calls me a "short guido," a "foot-stomping midget," an "angry foot-stomping midget" - I think that's freakin' hysterical.

But don't expect me not to come back atcha. Don't think I'm not going to point out to the world that he's got a tramp stamp, and I don't want to lose to a guy who has a tramp stamp. You know, this guy's got a lower back tattoo, I don't know if you know what a tramp stamp is.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Yes, yes, I do.

Matt Serra: It can be very attractive on a girl. But on a guy, with the nail polish in there, it's very creepy.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): From everything I've read, Trigg even admitted that the painted toenails and the "Twinkle Toes" nickname are "kinda gay." Are you surprised he says that?

Matt Serra: Well, that's good the guy's secure with himself. So more power to him, I guess, I don't know. Eh, different strokes, you know what I mean?

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Trigg has said repeatedly that he thinks he'll be cut by the UFC if he loses to you, putting him at 0-2 in his most recent UFC run. You're coming off back-to-back losses yourself. Do you share any of that same worry? Do you think the UFC could release you with a loss to Trigg?

Matt Serra: Nah, they coulda released me with a loss to Hughes. But it got "Fight of the Night." We're not coming off the same type of losses. I fought one of the best guys whoever fought in the sport, Matt Hughes, one of the best champions, in a fight that coulda went either way. A lot think that I got it.

(Trigg) is coming off a first round knockout from Josh Koscheck. Getting knocked out, I don't think it's the same thing. I still think it's pretty crappy that I have to say I have a loss to Hughes, again without sounding too bitter about the decision. So I don't think it's the same thing at all.

Am I going to sit there and dwell on it? No, because that means I'm not concentrating on what I have to concentrate on. I'm in shape, man, I'm ready to rumble. I've been training for three months. I'm ready to go to war. That's it, that's what I concentrate on. I've fought numerous times with back-to-back losses, and I've rebounded before. So I'll be fine.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Let's talk about your training camp. How has it been going? Have you mixed anything up, specifically for Trigg, or do most of your camps stick to a particular game plan?

[Just then, Serra hollers to Pete Sell, who he's shopping with.]

Matt Serra: (off phone) Drago, also those drinks we were talking about - if you see ‘em.

I'm sorry, dude. Me and Drago, as we speak, are at Whole Foods. The camp went great. Actually, we're in Vegas now. I get here a couple weeks early to get acclimated and just to sharpen the knife, you know what I mean?

So right now, we're just going out, getting all our food and we're gonna cook at the hotel. I'll be eating every few hours, just making sure I'm putting the right fuel in the machine, man.

But the training camp went great. It was smart, sparring was awesome, some rolling. I can't complain. Another hard week, then just keep increasing till the fight, man, I'm ready to rock.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): In addition to being a second degree black belt in Judo, Trigg is also a southpaw, as was Hughes. Does that present any challenges for you?

Matt Serra: No, you know what, I'm very fortunate in that before this, the last guy I trained for was Matt Hughes. Wrestling background, southpaw. Basically it was the same kinda camp, except I feel this will be more of the fight I was expecting outta Hughes.

I thought Hughes was going to be a little bit more aggressive with the ground and pound. A little more aggressive with everything. I see Trigg being more that guy, you know? Which is good because it makes it exciting.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): When you were gearing up for the Hughes fight, I read that Trigg reached out to you with interest in serving as a wrestling coach for you or your camp?

Matt Serra: You got that wrong. That was for Season 6, he asked if I had a wrestling coach to help out for the show. I think Trigg likes the limelight, you know? He was even on that show, dating Jerry Hall. What does that tell ya?

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Yeah, I know, I read that today. I also found out today that his first name is Dewey?

Matt Serra: Yeah, I know, that's awesome. (Laughs)

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Renzo Gracie will get the chance to avenge your loss to Hughes at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

Matt Serra: I think that's exciting, man, I think that's awesome. Renzo's an icon of the sport, the guy's a legend. He's doing it for the love of it, and I think that's awesome.

It's going to be the opposite - usually it's the student avenging the teacher in those old kung-fu movies. This will be the opposite - it'll be the teacher avenging the student. So it's going to be good.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Okay, last question about Hughes. He's been called out by a lot of fighters at AKA, including Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch and Mike Swick - all contenders in the division. But Hughes says he's not interested in fighting guys like that. The guys at AKA have stated that they think he's dodging them and that Hughes shouldn't be considered a contender in line for a title shot without first fighting one of them.

Do you agree with that statement? Do you think that before he can be considered for a title shot, he should first have to face one of those younger, up-and-coming guys - like a Koscheck or a Fitch or a Swick?

Matt Serra: Yeah, I mean, if he wants to fight for the ... I mean the guy has done so much for the sport. This is crazy, I'm sitting here defending Hughes.

I don't blame those guys at all, because I think all the guys you just mentioned have the ... I mean I don't think Hughes is an easy opponent by any means, but I think Koscheck, with the wrestling, and Fitch - I think those guys can be a bad match-up for him.

So I think Hughes is going to be smart. He's probably only going to fight certain guys, where, maybe he thinks Renzo's a little older and this and that, but he's got a name still. Who knows? He's gonna probably be smart about who he fights at this point. Those guys are going to be dangerous for him.

But I think they're smart, because obviously Hughes is a legend in the sport and a win over him is great on the resume, and I think Hughes is actually being kinda smart too. I mean technically he should beat one of those guys if he wants to get another title shot? That would make sense.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Other than the Trigg fight, what else do you have on your agenda for 2010? Do you have any plans in terms of where'd you like your fighting career to go, or plans that involve your gyms?

Matt Serra: Actually, I'm opening up a new school. It's going to be huge, it's going to be right next to the school where I'm at now in Huntington, Long Island. It's going to be 8,300 square feet, it's going to be big, it's going to be beautiful, and I'm really excited about it.

That's what I'm going to concentrate on right after this fight. And again, I got no five-year plan, I take it one fight at a time. That's how I roll.

Adam Wagner (MMAmania.com): Right on, Matt. I again thank you for taking the time to talk with us. I'd like to give you the opportunity to thank any sponsors or provide some parting words for your fans.

Matt Serra: You know what? Tokyo Five and Xyience. Tokyo Five has the coolest looking shirts out there, man. I'm very happy to be sponsored by them. That's not just because they give me free shirts, but that's a big perk, because I love their clothing.

Also, Xyience. Not only is it tasty, but it keeps you going, man, I love Xyience. So that's my sponsors.

Besides that, just all the fans, check out http://www.serrajitsu.com/. I appreciate it, man, I really do. I'm a guy that no matter what I accomplish or continue to do, I'm still that guy who's just happy to be here. I'm having a great time, I'm very fortunate.

(Special thanks to Tokyo Five for coordinating this interview)

WEC 48: Ben Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone II booked for PPV debut on April 24

Yee-haw!

WEC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson will defend his 155-pound title for the first time against the man he defeated, Donald Cerrone, to earn his shot at unifying the title in the first place.

Henderson and Cerrone will collide in a rematch at WEC 48, which is scheduled for the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on April 24, in the co-featured fight of the night. And It will certainly help the the promotion sell its first-ever pay-per-view (PPV) event at its desired price of $44.99.

That's because their first encounter at WEC 43 was one of the best fights in all of 2009.

Henderson most recently unified the lightweight titles at WEC 46, tapping out then lightweight champion Jamie Varner via guillotine choke. Cerrone, meanwhile,  choked out Ed Ratcliff at WEC 45 last Dec.

"Cowboy's" critical victory was more than likely the key to getting another crack at "Smooth."

In addition to the rematch between Henderson and Cerrone, WEC 48 will feature a main event between former 145-pound champion, Urijah Faber, and reigning division kingpin, Jose Aldo.

So far so good -- WEC appears to be assembling an attractive card. But do you need to see more to open your wallets?

Sound off, maniacs!

Mike Brown vs Manny Gamburyan on tap for WEC 48 on April 24

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 12:13 PM PST

Mike_brown_medium

Former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion Mike Thomas Brown has been working his way back to a shot at redemption after losing the belt to Jose Aldo at WEC 44 in Nov. 2009.

Brown quickly rebounded, sinking in a fight-ending rear naked choke against Anthony Morrison at WEC 46 earlier this year. He now looks to keep the win streak rolling as he is set to be featured on the WEC's first-ever pay-per-view (PPV)card opposite Manny Gamburyan.

Brown and Gamburyan will hook 'em up at WEC 48, which is scheduled for the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., on April 24.

Gamburyan is fresh of a unanimous decision victory of Leonard Garcia at WEC 44. The victory was Gamburyan's second straight. In fact, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alum is undefeated (2-0) since joining the promotion.

Brown was one of the names brought up most often when discussing who would need to be on a WEC PPV card to bolster the sales. The former featherweight champion has become a fan favorite of sorts with his soft-spoken manner and exciting style of combat in the cage.

The ex-champion won the 145-pound gold against Urijah Faber almost two years ago. When WEC 48 rolls around, Brown will have to watch as Faber gets the first shot at the new champion Aldo, along with the belt Brown is on a mission to get back.

WEC 48 makes jump to PPV official for April 24 in Sacramento with 'Aldo vs Faber'

It looks like WEC GM Reed Harris listened to all the naysayers who told him that May, the month that was previously reported to hold the promotion's pay-per-view debut, was far too crowded with two UFC events and a potential blockbuster boxing match scheduled.

But whoever he listened to, he likely made the right choice. The Associated Press breaks the news:

World Extreme Cagefighting will stage its first pay-per-view event April 24, scheduling a star-stacked card for its first attempt to persuade mixed martial arts fans to pay $44.99 for its fights.

Urijah Faber will meet featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the main event of WEC 48 from Sacramento, Calif., the lighter-weight MMA promotion's leaders told The Associated Press before Wednesday's announcement.

Former featherweight champion Mike Brown also will meet Manny Gamburyan at Arco Arena, and lightweight champion Ben Henderson will fight Donald Cerrone in a rematch of their acclaimed October bout.

As far as stacking a PPV card, you can't do much better than that with the current WEC roster.

"We wanted to wait until we had this type of card to go to pay-per-view," WEC general manager Reed Harris told the AP. "We didn't want to do a pay-per-view show until fans would say at the end of the night, ‘This was worth it.' This will truly be the biggest event we've ever done."

Was there any doubt this was going to go down in Sacramento, California? With Urijah Faber and Jose Aldo serving as the headliner, their decision was pretty much made for them.

And with the announcement of a rematch for the WEC's Lightweight title between Ben Henderson and fan favorite Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone, we are guaranteed at least two title fights on the card. But with the way the WEC brass is talking, we could be seeing some more big names announced for this historic card real soon.

"It's a natural progression," WEC vice president Peter Dropick said. "The WEC is growing, and going to pay-per-view is the next step. It's an important step from a business standpoint. We weren't just going to put a pay-per-view on. We wanted to make sure it was the right card and the right matchup. We've got the ability to put on one of the best cards we've ever done. The timing is right."

Joe Rogan: In this sport it pays to make comparisons to Fedor Emelianenko

Quoteworthy:

"Guys do what they have to do to get attention and to build hype. The more attention they get, the more money they can make. In this sport it pays to make any comparisons with Fedor. You also have to factor in that these are very confident professional killers and that they really do believe that they can beat any man alive. I don't really think I've seen any UFC fighter 'trash' Fedor. It's not that someone hasn't, I just don't recall seeing it anywhere. I would love to see Fedor, Mousasi, Shields, etc. - I would love to see all the best guys in the world match up, regardless of what organization they represent, but unfortunately the business doesn't work that way, and if companies aren't making money (as we've seen over and over again) they go under. The UFC isn't going to make any dumb moves, and they're not going away. They're going to get bigger every year, and if Fedor comes aboard one day, awesome. If not, that's cool too. It's all good in the end. I just like watching great fights, and we've got a lot of them coming up in 2010."

Longtime UFC commentator and rabid mixed martial arts fan Joe Rogan talks about the complexities of a sport that is not bound by a single entity. While it may give fighters more places to find employment, it also keeps some of the most desired fantasy bouts from ever taking place. Strikeforce has been willing to make deals with M-1 Global and DREAM in order to obtain the rights to a broader talent base, but the UFC brass remain steadfast in their decision to stand alone. Good for business -- but is it good for the sport?

Shine Fights signs veteran welterweight Nick 'The Goat' Thompson

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 11:49 AM PST

Goat_medium
Miami, FL (USA): Shine Fight Promotions (Shine Fights) is excited to announce the signing of UFC and StrikeForce veteran and former Bodog Fight world champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson.

Thompson broke into the national MMA scene in October 2005 with a rear-naked choke victory over UFC veteran Josh Neer at Extreme Challenge 64. A rough matchup for any fighter, Thompson then defeated another tough guy in Keith Wisnewski at UFC 56 less than a month later.

With over 50 pro fights in just six years, Thompson is one of the more experienced fighters in the world. Prior to 2009, "The Goat" was riding a 22-2 streak as a welterweight, with wins over current UFC contender Paul "Semtex" Daley and current Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

Despite a gaudy record and a minuteman attitude that allows him to take any fight on any notice, Thompson was unable to find competition at 170 pounds and was forced to move to the middleweight division to take a tough fight with fast-rising prospect Tim Kennedy in StrikeForce.

His willingness to fight and an offer from a growing promotion in Shine prompted Thompson to sign on the dotted line: "Over three years I’d gone 22-2 at welterweight, and I couldn’t get a fight. It was really frustrating…if you look at my record, I had 50 fights in five years, and all of a sudden I’m going down to two fights in a year. I’m going out of my mind."

Despite riding a two-fight losing streak, the well-rounded Thompson is still a force to be reckoned with: "I can submit you from the top, from the bottom…I’ve knocked out world-class strikers, and I think that’s one thing that sets me aside is just my well-roundedness."

A quick rundown of Thompson’s resume and the names that it contains proves why he is one of the more respected fighters in the world. On top of the aforementioned victories over Daley, Alvarez, Neer, and Wisnewski, "The Goat" has defeated the likes of former Cage Rage contender Mark Weir, and UFC veterans Ansar Chalangov and Chris Wilson.

The impressive veteran has also faced the likes of Bellator welterweight Dan Hornbuckle, StrikeForce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan, "The Ultimate Fighter" season three runner-up Ed Herman, and UFC middleweight contender Yushin Okami.

Now setting his sights on the Shine roster, Thompson plans to make it back into the top ten in his weight class: "I want to be the number one ranked guy in Shine Fights, plain and simple."

"Nick is a world-class fighter, and we’re extremely excited to feature him in our shows," said Shine Fights matchmaker Ron Foster.

Thompson will fight in the Shine Welterweight division and a debut is expected in 2010.

Strikeforce paydays and salaries for 'Miami'

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 09:10 AM PST

Money

MMAmania.com has confirmed the fighter payouts for Strikeforce: "Miami" from the Florida State Boxing Commission (FSBC) for the Showtime event held at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, on Jan. 30.

There was a lot of hubbub surrounding Herschel Walker's mixed martial arts debut, along with his decision to donate his entire fight purse to charity. I'm sure the good folks over at the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship will thank the former NFL legend for making them $600 richer.

All kidding aside, Walker likely made a boatload of green in an undisclosed pre-fight financial agreement.

As expected, foul-mouthed fightmonger Nick Diaz had the biggest haul of the night, banking a hundred grand for his first round whooping of DREAM import Marius Zaromskis, who collected $30,000 in defeat.

Joining him in the six-figure club was Robbie Lawler, whose "Ruthless" rebuttal to Melvin Manhoef's leg kicks sent the K-1 striker back to Japan with a measly $5,000.

Former WWE star Bobby Lashley dominated Wes Sims in the fight and at the bank. "A Whole Show" made a whole lot compared to the undercard competitors, but only managed to secure half of the $50,000 Strikeforce paid to Lashley.

Anytime Sims feels bad he should just call Marloes Coenen. She was given just $2,000 to risk her neck against the seemingly invincible "Cyborg" Santos.

Here are the complete Strikeforce: "Miami" payouts:

Nick Diaz $100,000
Marius Zaromskis $30,000
Diaz defeated Zaromskis via TKO (strikes)

Cris "Cyborg" Santos $35,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 to win, $5,000 championship bonus)
Marloes Coenen $2,000
Santos defeated Coenen via TKO (strikes)

Herschel Walker $600
Greg Nagy $5,000
Walker defeated Nagy via TKO (strikes)

Robbie Lawler $100,000
Melvin Manhoef $5,000
Lawler defeated Manhoef via KO (punch)

Bobby Lashley $50,000
Wes Sims $25,000
Lashley defeated Sims via TKO (strikes)

Jay Hieron $65,000 ($30,000 to show, $35,000 to win)
Joe Riggs $30,000
Hieron defeated Riggs via unanimous decision

Pablo Alfonso $3,000 ($1,500 to show, $1,500 to win)
Marcos DaMotta $2,500

Hadar Hassan $2,000 ($1,000 to show, $1,000 to win)
Ryan Keenan $2,000
Hassan defeated Keenan via KO (punch)

John Kelly $2,000 ($1,000 to show, $1,000 to win)

Joe Ray $1,500 ($1,000 to show, $500 to win)
John Clarke $1,000
Ray defeated Clark via TKO (strikes)

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.

The total base fighter payroll for the event was $469,600. 8,156 spectators packed the BankAtlantic Center while 517,000 viewers caught all the action on the Showtime network.

Jorge Masvidal vs Luis Palomino co-headline GForce: 'Bad Blood 3' in Miami on Feb. 4

Posted: 03 Feb 2010 09:08 AM PST

Masvidal-palomino_medium

Bellator Fighting Championships and American Top Team product Jorge Masvidal is set to fight against Luis Palomino in the co-main event of GForce: 'Bad Blood 3' in Miami tomorrow, February 4, according to The Miami Herald.

"Gamebred" (19-4) has won 13 of his last 15 fights spending most of his time under the Sengoku and Bellator banners. Most fans however, remember Masvidal for being on the receiving end of the unquestionable submission of the year in 2009, when Toby Imada sunk in an inverted triangle choke against him at Bellator V.

"Baboon" (12-6), the much smaller fighter coming into the catch-weight bout at 158, has also spent some time fighting for Bellator. Despite his lack of experience and the advantage in size that Masvidal holds over him, Palomino says he has been waiting for this fight his whole career.

"Masvidal is a prize for me," Palomino said. "When I went to my first live MMA show, he was the main event, and he won impressively. As soon as I saw that fight I said, ‘One day I want to fight this guy.' Ever since we've gotten to know each other in the locker room, and there's always been talk of us fighting each other at some point, and finally GForce made it happen."

A win over Masvidal would undoubtedly by the highlight of his MMA career to date, and Palomino seems intent on pulling the upset.

"I want this fight so bad that I don't care about being the smaller guy,'" Palomino said. "He fights at 155 and walks around at 180. There are even rumors that he may not make that weight of 158 that he came up with, but I don't care how much he weighs. I want this fight. I'm ready for this fight. I'm determined for this fight, and I know I want this more than he does. I'm winning this."

GForce: 'Bad Blood 3' is set to take place on February 4 from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Fl. The card will be headlined by a match up between highly touted Bellator fighter Hector Lombard and Joey Gorczynski.

Here is the complete Bad Blood 3 fight card:

Hector Lombard's goals for 2010 include offending top middleweights and grabbing a few throats

"I'm pissed off right now about that. It's frustrating for me that everybody who knows me, everybody who knows what I'm about, they know I'm for real. Everybody who's been training with me knows I'm for real. I don't see my name out there and that's why I've been calling out all the big fighters. I want to fight the best. I want to stand out. I'm not getting the respect I'm supposed to have. If I have to offend everybody, if I have to grab somebody by the throat, then I gotta do it."

The grotesquely underrated Hector Lombard (22-2-1) blows his stack via MMA Fighting over the lack of respect he's getting from the mixed martial arts community. In addition to cleaning out his division in Australia's Cage Fighting Championships (CFC), "Hektor" spent most of 2009 making a mockery of the Bellator FC middleweight division, capturing the 185-pound championship after three straight (T)KO wins for the upstart promotion. The Cuban-born Australian is expected to defend that title later this year, but is there anyone outside of Strikeforce and the UFC that can stop him?

UFC 115: Tyson Griffin vs Evan Dunham on tap for June 12

Surging lightweight contender Tyson Griffin (14-2) is in talks to take on undefeated prospect Evan Dunham (10-0) at the upcoming UFC 115 event scheduled for the General Motors Place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, on June 12, according to MMAWeekly.

The embattled Griffin finally notched himself a finish inside the Octagon after knocking off Hermes Franca at UFC 103 on Sept. 19 in Dallas. The talented Xtreme Couture product is the winner of a staggering five "Fight of the Night" bonuses but had gone to a decision in seven straight bouts dating back to 2006 and taking heat from fans and media alike in his inability to seal the deal -- despite going 6-2 during that span.

The veteran lightweight seemed to be keeping himself out of serious title consideration with his inability to finish, something likely to be forgotten -- and quickly -- if he can make it two stoppages in a row with a premature ending against the crafty grappler.

Dunham has looked invincible since demolishing Per Ecklund in his Octagon debut at UFC 95: "Sanchez vs. Stevenson" in early 2009. He followed that up with a split decision victory over the dangerous Marcus Aurelio at UFC 102: "Couture vs. Nogueira" last August.

The submissions specialist cemented his place among the top lightweight prospects with a bona fide ass kicking of Efrain Escudero at last month's UFC Fight Night 20 event in Fairfax. He made a statement against "Hencho en Mexico" with a grisly armbar that has now gotten him a major step up in competition.

Will he be ready?

UFC 115 is expected to feature the third (and hopefully final) dance between TUF 11 Coaches and  former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, as well as a 170-pound scrap between Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates on this still-developing fight card.

Wilson Reis, Yuji Hoshino and Shigeki Osawa confirmed for SRC 12

The inaugural Sengoku Raiden Championship fight card of 2010 is starting to take shape with the addition of Wilson Reis (9-1), Yuji Hoshino (16-7-7), and Shigeki Osawa (4-1).

SRC 12, which is scheduled for March 7 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, will air on HDNet in North America. The fight card is punctuated by the SRC middleweight title bout-cum-rematch between Jorge Santiago and Mamed Khalidov.

Wilson Reis, former EliteXC 140 lbs. champion, makes his SRC and Japanese debut against Yuji Hoshino.

Reis, a highly touted grappler who holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Roberto Godoi, was a favorite to win the featherweight tournament during the first season of Bellator Fighting Championship. After defeating Henry Martinez via unanimous decision in the first round of the tournament, he was upset by the eventual winner, Joe Soto in the semi-final round.

He has since restored his winning way with consecutive victories over Roberto Vargas and Dwayne Shelton at Bellator 10 and Locked in the Cage 1, respectively.

Hoshino, a former Cage Force featherweight champion, made his Sengoku debut last November at Sengoku 11 opposite Marlon Sandro. Having suffered a first-round KO loss in the bout, he looks to rebound with an emphatic victory over the very game Reis. He holds notable victories over Shooto veteran, Antonio Carvalho and former Sengoku lightweight champion, Satoru Kitaoka.

Former collegiate wrestling dynamo, Shigeki Osawa returns for his second appearance in the main card of SRC against a Korean grappler, Kyung Ho Kang (4-2). Osawa had garnered a mountain of accolades during his amateur wrestling career; hailed as a "gem that appears once every 20 years," he capped off his illustrious wrestling career with a gold medal at the World Collegiate Wrestling Tournament in Greece.

In his last fight at Sengoku 11, he incurred the first loss of his career against the British prospect, Ronnie Mann.

Kang became a Korean version of TUF winner when he emerged victorious during the third season of "Go! Super Korean," a reality TV show series similar in format and premise to The Ultimate Fighter. He has competed in Spirit MC, Chinese-based Art of War, and DEEP.
