Mfc24_medium_medium_medium

MFC 24: "Heat XC" is set to go down tomorrow night (Feb. 26) at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Alberta, Canada. Earlier today the 18 fighters on the card tipped the scales for the official fighter weigh-ins.

UFC veteran lightweights Yves Edwards and Derrick Noble will headline the event in a battle of two grizzled veterans who are both coming off back-to-back wins. Both main event participants were successful in making their 156-pound division limit.

A few other fighters on the card weren't as precise with their weight cutting measures though.

MMA journeyman Travis Galbraith missed his mark by a half a pound for a middleweight contest opposite Tom Watson. The Canadian native will forfeit a quarter of his purse.

Undercard fighters Eric Chouinard and Zach Blaber were each a pound heavy for their light heavyweight tilt. However, the two men agreed to go ahead with the fight at a catchweight of 207 pounds.

And finally, Elliot Duff, another undercard fighter, came in a full seven pounds over the 186-pound division limit for his middleweight bout with Jason Gorny. He will also forfeit a quarter of his pay for the fight.

Check out the full weigh-in results for "Heat XC" below:

155 lbs.: Yves Edwards (155.5) vs. Derrick Noble (156)
185 lbs.: Tom Watson (184.5) vs. Travis Galbraith (186.5)
205 lbs.: Ryan McClain (205) vs. Dwayne Lewis (205)
170 lbs.: Jesse Juarez (171) vs. Nathan Gunn (169.5)
170 lbs.: Dami Egbeyemi (170.5) vs. Paapa Inkumsah (170)
170 lbs.: David Letourneau (169.5) vs. Nick Hrynchyshyn (170)
185 lbs.: Elliot Duff (193)** vs. Jason Gorny (185.5)
155 lbs.: Chris Barber (153.5) vs. Garret Nybakken (154)
207 lbs.: Eric Chouinard (207) vs. Zach Blaber (207)

It's looking like another solid lineup tomorrow night in Alberta. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for all your MFC news and results.

Bitetti Combat 6 results and recap

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 07:38 PM PST

Bitetti_combat_medium
Amaury Bitetti's fast-rising Bitetti Combat staged its sixth event in Brasilia, Brazil on Thursday, February 25.

The fight card was plagued with a series of late withdrawals - most notably the retreat of the embattled middleweight, Paulo Filho - that led to the unraveling of several matches.

Jeff Monson was scratched from his fight against Glover Teixeira. According to his manager, he failed to notify his parole office of the trip to Brazil and would have faced the possibility of arrest, had he made the trip. Rico Washington apparently did not show up at the weigh-in, and a fractured hand forced Fabio Maldonado to withdraw, as he could not risk further damage to his "moneymaker."

To compound BC's plight, Yuki Sasaki, who was scheduled to face Filho, refused a fight with proposed replacement, Daniel Acacio.

Consequently, the night of fights began on a precarious note, with the BC staff scrambling to cope with the absence of fighters and piece the fight card back together.

When the fights finally kicked off, Amanda Nunes squared off with Ediante "India" Gomes in the lone female match of the card. Nunes seized control of the fight early, scoring with effective strikes while defending against the American Top Team prospect's takedown and submission attempts. After dazing "India" with a solid shot at the end of the first round, Nunes continued with her onslaught in the second round, eventually earning a TKO victory in the stanza.

Pride and DREAM veteran, Luiz "Buscape" Firmino made his promotional debut against Francisco "Massaranduba" Drinaldo. Experience fighting in world class organizations tilted the pre-fight odd heavily in favor of "Buscape." Drinaldo, who came into the bout with 3-0 record, however, had a different plan. After some clinch game to start the opening frame, "Buscape" managed to drag Drinaldo to the mat with a single-leg; Drinaldo wasted no time slithering underneathe "Buscape" to grab his left leg and lock in a tight knee bar. Blindsided and writhing in pain, "Buscape" had no option but to tap.

Eighteen year-old American Top Team prospect, Yuri Villefort continued his rise with a victory over Julio Cesar Merenda. Landing big shots on the feet and staying active on the ground, Villefort outworked Merenda to earn the nod from all the judges at the end of three rounds. He remains undefeated in his nascent career with a record of 5-0.

Former Chute Boxe BJJ coach, Cristiano Marcello returned to MMA for the first time in nearly two and a half years. Showing no sign of ring rust, he pressed the action early against Emiliano Vatt with punches and leg kicks. After catching Vatt's leg kick and forcing the fight to the mat, he quickly locked in an arm bar to earn a first-round submission victory.

WEC and UFC veteran, Danilo "Indio" Villefort earned his second victory since being unceremoniously dismissed from UFC. Against Cassiano Tytscho, he came out guns blazing in a striking exchange. The end came quickly when Villefort landed a vicious, counter right hand that shut out Tytscho's light.

Long-time Pit Fighting Team member, Glover Teixeira, faced last-minute replacement, Joachim "Mamute" Ferreira.
Teixeira emerged as the aggressor from the first round, forcing Ferreira into clinch game. Toward the end of the opening frame, he stunned "Mamute" with a shot to the temple. Saved by the bell, Ferreira persisted in the second round, but once Teixeira unloaded a flurry of punches, he showed a clear sign of exhaustion, prompting his corner to throw in a towel.

In the final event of the night, former UFC middleweight challenger, Thales Leites quickly dispatched Rico Washington. Though Leites originally stepped up as a replacement for Filho, the last-minute shuffling of the fight card paired him with Washington, who apparently did not show up at the weigh-in the night before. Sucker-punched with a jab from Washington after touching gloves to begin the fight, Leites wasted no time making his opponent pay. He tripped Washington to the mat against the fence and immediately moved to side control: From there, he forced a tap with deep, arm triangle choke.

Full result:

Thales Leites def. Rico Washington via sub (arm-triangle choke) R1
Glover Teixeira def. Joaquim "Mamute" via TKO (corner stoppage) R2
Danillo "Indio" Villefort def. Cassiano Tytschyo via KO (punch) R1
Cristiano Marcello def. Emiliano "Cobra" Vatt via sub (armbar) R1
Yuri Villefort def. Julio Cesar Merenda via unanimous decision
Leandro "Batata" def. Gustavo "Labareda" via unanimous decision
Francisco Drinaldo def. Luiz "Buscape" via sub (kneebar) R1
Cesar "Mutante" def. Felipe "Mongo" via sub (Brabo choke) R2
Amanda Nunes def. "India" Gomes via TKO (punches) R2

Strikeforce Challengers VI preview and quick picks for 'Kaufman vs Hashi'

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 12:47 PM PST

Chall-san-jose_medium_medium

Strikeforce Challengers VI: "Kaufman vs. Hashi" is all set for this Friday night (Feb. 26) at the Civic Auditorium in San Jose, California. The five-fight main card will air live on the premium cable channel Showtime beginning at 11 p.m. ET on fight night.

Strikeforce Challenger Series serves as a proving ground to promote up-and-coming (and lesser known) fighters. The events are similar to what Elite XC used to promote with its SHO XC: "Challenger Series" on Showtime.

Journeyman Trevor Prangley, who has fought under sixteen different promotional banners, including the UFC, Bodog Fight, Strikeforce and others, will headline the event opposite dangerous M-1 Global up and comer Karl "Psycho" Amoussou, who has only lost twice thus far in his four year career.

The featured co-main event of the night will be the promotion's first ever female welterweight (135 lbs.) title bout between hard hitting Canadian Sarah Kaufman and Japanese standout Takayo Hashi.

Highly touted middleweight prospect Luke Rockhold - winner of five straight by first round submission under the Strikeforce banner - will is also slated for the card. He'll square off against "The Ultimate Fighter 7" original cast member Paul Bradley.

To help get you better prepared for the festivities, I've given my analysis and predictions for these three highly anticipated bouts set to hit the Showtime airwaves Friday night.

Check it out below:

Trevor Prangley (22-5) vs. Karl "Psycho" Amoussou (11-2-1)

"Psycho" is M-1 Global prospect getting a main event fight in his debut. The bad news for him is that he'll be facing Trevor Prangley, winner of eleven of his past twelve fights.

Both guys are well rounded. Prangley has a solid wrestling base, while Amoussou has a background in judo. They're both very good with submissions (offensively and defensively). They can both finish fights with their hands, and they both have deep gas tanks.

Prangley is slightly better in just about every one of those areas though, and that comes from his experience and level of competition. Amoussou has fought a couple of decent guys over in Europe, but nowhere near the level of Prangley, who has faced Chael Sonnen twice (win, loss), Andrei Semenov (win), Babalu Sobral (loss), Travis Lutter (win), Jeremy Horn (loss) and others.

Prangley has clearly been in some big fights, and being in the main event of a Showtime televised card isn't going to faze him in the slightest bit. The same can't be said with full confidence about Amousssou.

Look for Prangley to have the better gameplan execution on fight night because of this. I think timely takedowns and solid ground control win this one for the American.

Final Prediction: Trevor Prangley via unanimous decision.

Sarah Kaufman (10-0) vs. Takayo Hashi (12-1)

Kaufman is always fun to watch because she always looks like she's having a good time in the cage. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that she's always winning.

She earned her spot in Strikeforce's first ever 135 pound female title fight by winning back to back fights over a couple of well tested veterans in Miesha Tate and Shayna Baszler. And even though both of those fights went the full three rounds, the Canadian had stopped each of her previous eight opponents with strikes.

Hashi, on the other hand, is a grind-it-out type of fighter who will probably be looking to weather the early storm and ride the fight out into the championship rounds. She's a tough girl with a mean streak, and you can bet your wallet that she's not going to come over the the U.S. with a world title on the line in front of a Showtime audience and not bring her A game.

Kaufman definitely has a battle on her hands, and the deeper this fight goes into those championship rounds the better Hashi's chances get. Fortunately for the Kaufman though, I don't think this fight will see either of those rounds.

I actually think Kaufman is going to make a statement in this fight with a big knockout. She'll take a cautious approach early on, but once she gets comfortable in there, her killer instinct is going to take over. She's been on two previous Showtime cards, but this is by far her biggest opportunity to make a name for herself.

I think she does that and does it big.

Final Prediction: Sarah Kaufman via first round knockout.

Luke Rockhold (6-1) vs. Paul Bradley (12-1)

Rockhold will have his hometown fans behind him on Friday night, but I don't think he'll need much of the extra support to get by this TUF alum.

Bradley didn't really get a chance to show his skills on the reality show because he was sent home early with a medical issue. But this guy can actually fight. There's a reason he was originally selected to be on the show. He's well rounded, has good cardio and a decent amount of experience with twelve fights under his belt (nearly twice as many as Rockhold.)

However, Rockhold has been on fire under the Strikeforce banner, winning five straight by submission in the first round, including his two most recent wins over Corey Devela and Jesse Taylor.

And even though I like Bradley, I actually think both of those guys are better than him, even though him and Taylor are probably close.

The point is, this is Rockhold's fight to win or lose. If he comes out resembling anything close to the fighter we've seen over the last year then he should be able to handle Bradley.

Look for another submission win for the hometown guy, although this one may take him a bit longer.

Final Prediction: Luke Rockhold via submission in round two

That's a wrap.

Remember that MMAmania.com will provide live coverage of the main card beginning with the Showtime telecast at 11 p.m. ET as well as up to the minute results of the under card action beginning at around 9 p.m.

Check in early and often, it should be an exciting night of fights.

Anderson Silva: This is not jiu-jitsu -- this is MMA

Quoteworthy:

"This isn’t jiu-jitsu, it’s MMA, a sport that involves many techniques and elements. It’s hard to say that I would beat him standing up and he would defeat me on the canvas. Logically, each one of us owns a specialty but a fight is always a fight. MMA is a new sport and there’s no precise gameplan so we keep training and studying. I’m going to study for the rest of my life. It has been going correctly but it can happen that I won’t give my best showing and it’s over. We’re training and if it’s God’s will to have me stay as champion, I’ll stay. I don’t feel pressure to fight with Demian or any other fighter in this division. I’m worried about how I’m training each day."

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva prepares for a very dangerous test on April 10 when he faces grappling wizard Demian Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi. "The Spider" has two of his four losses come via submission and recognizes that anything can happen inside the cage. Still, he has to be encouraged by the faceplant Maia took when he stood with Nate Marquardt and seems confident in his ongoing training. Will his 10-fight winning streak inside the Octagon come to an end -- or keep on trucking when they meet this April?

Jose Canseco reportedly owes the IRS $320,000 -- and may be looking to MMA for a financial reprieve

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 10:24 AM PST

Alg_canseco-speaks_medium

MMA fans figured something was up with Jose Canseco's strong push for a Herschel Walker fight under the Strikeforce banner. And now we have a better understanding of just what that might be. The former Major League Baseball (MLB) player and the main man behind their steroid era reportedly owes the IRS $320,000.

Life post-baseball has clearly been and up and down, well ... mainly down, for the steroid stool-pigeon. After the Cuban released his tell-all book titled Juiced in 2005, he transformed into MLB's public enemy number one.

Many of Canseco's recent endeavors have been financially driven. He was a cast member of VH1's reality show The Surreal Life - not exactly a show where self respecting people appear - and has since been involved in several "celebrity" boxing matches, having fought to a three round majority draw against former child star Danny Bonaduce in 2009.

But it looks like Canseco's compensation during his major league career - more than $45 million - as well as the money he received during his "reality star" career has run dry.

Here's a list of the former Bash Brother's pending liens, courtesy of the Detroit News:

-The IRS filed a $121,209 lien against Canseco on Jan. 7 with the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds.
-The state of California filed a $101,037 lien on June 2, 2009, in Ventura County Court.
-The state of California filed a $29,739 lien on Dec. 12, 2008, in Los Angeles.
-The state of California filed a $68,210 lien on July 7, 2008, in Los Angeles.

So without going as far as saying that this is the sole reason for his foray into mixed martial arts, one can easily come to their own conclusion as to why Canseco stepped into the ring against Hong Man Choi last spring.

And one can probably assume that the reason behind his re-entry into MMA in an effort to fight another former professional athlete in Herschel Walker is at least partially financially driven.

But we really shouldn't be surprised by this new revelation. His recent pattern of behavior screams that the guy is in need of money and is willing to do just about anything to get it. Here's hoping that a fight with Herschel Walker isn't one of them.

UFC Quick Quote: Shane Carwin wants to clarify his remarks regarding 'Deathgate'

Posted: 25 Feb 2010 09:51 AM PST

Mir-carwin3_medium_medium

"I have never said Frank Mir was mentally unfit or a terrible human being. What I did say is that if ANY fighter really wishes to kill someone in the Octagon they IN FACT ARE a terrible person. I also stated that I had not heard any of Mir's comments so I was not directing the comment to him. I had been buried in getting my wife through labor and the baby here safely (29 hours of labor). There are a lot of fighters that say were fighting to the death or I want to kill that guy when we fight. Fighting is an emotional sport and we all say some stupid stuff, fighters just have a tendency to say it when the mic is on, when our emotions are at our highest. Do I think Frank is unfit or a bad guy? I do not, every experience I have had with him has been good and I really do not have much negative to say about him. I expect he will be in amazing shape and seems to be as hungry as we all are to get a crack at Brock's title."

UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin wants to clarify his remarks directed towards Frank Mir via his official blog after the former champ ranted about killing Brock Lesnar inside the Octagon. Carwin is booked to battle Mir at UFC 111: "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27. However, the talk of the town has been anything but their colossal clash -- perhaps more misdirection by Mir, who is a master at pre-fight head games? Whatever the case may be, "The Engineer" seems to be just as entrenched in "Deathgate" as everyone else. Will it affect his preparations and ultimately his performance next month?

Bedlam at Bitetti: Jeff Monson and Paulo Filho removed from Feb. 25 card (Updated)

Seems like the UFC isn't the only promotion to be snake-bitten on the heels of a major event.

Somebody on the Bitetti roster must have gone all Bobby Brady and unearthed an ancient Tiki when they got to Brazil, because the bad luck continues to befall the Feb. 25 fight card just hours before showtime.

Cocky and stocky submission specialist Jeff Monson has been scratched from the Bitetti Combat 6 event after encountering some issues in the U.S. and was unable to make the flight to Brazil. Fortunately event organizers have a deep pool of alternates, as Joaquim "Mamute" Ferreira has agreed to step in and face Glover Teixeira.

Also missing in action is Paulo Filho, who Tatame.com reports had "flight trouble" and could not make the scheduled weigh-in time. This comes just days after "Ely" backed out of the event -- only to rejoin it when original opponent Yuki Sasaki refused to fight Filho's replacement Thales Leites.

The troubled Brazilian eventually agreed to return, pitting Leites against Rico Washington in the main event, but now word comes out of PVT that Filho is off the card for good and Sasaki has opted not to fight an alternate.

Adding insult to injury (or insult AND injury in this case), Fabio Maldonado suffered a late hand injury and will not be able to compete against Guto Inocente. No word on a replacement at this time.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for Bitetti Combat 6 results and quick recap immediately following the event.

Miguel Angel Torres and Joseph Benavidez are looking to make statements when they collide at WEC 47

Torres-benavidez_medium_medium

WEC bantamweights Miguel Angel Torres and Joseph Benavidez are at different stages of their respective careers, though both men are aiming to reach the same goal.

The goal of becoming the WEC bantamweight champion.

Torres has been there before. In fact, that's where he has spent almost all of his career in the WEC. Before falling victim to Brian Bowles at WEC 42 in what was one of, if not the biggest upset of the year, Torres successfully defended his title three times after beating Chase Beebe at WEC 32 to win the crown.

Before the loss to Bowles, Torres put together an incredible 17-fight win streak that spanned the course of five years. Losing is most assuredly not something Torres in familiar with.

Benavidez's career also endured a setback at WEC 42 as he lost a unanimous decision to now number one contender Dominick Cruz. Prior that contest, the Team Alpha Male product reeled off ten consecutive wins to start his promising MMA career.

Joseph though has since returned to the win column as he finished Rani Yahya in the first round at WEC 45

Before the two fighters step toe-to-toe at WEC 47 on March 6 putting the goal they share on the line, both gentlemen joined MMAmania.com's exclusive presentation of Pro MMA Radio to discuss their upcoming bout earlier this week.

Torres first spoke about the shocking loss he took at the hands of Bowles and what caused the fall of his reign atop the bantamweight division.

"What happened was my fault. I fought reckless and I got knocked out. It could have been a much easier fight. I never watched any of my own fights during training to improve. If it wasn't Bowles that night, it would have eventually been someone else. So I've totally revamped my training to improve as a fighter."

The lack of desire and preparation in his training in the lead up to the Bowles fight has been well documented, and Miguel knows he should have taken Brian much more serious.

"Everyone in the camp was getting cocky as I was getting cocky. No one was keeping me in check. They kept telling me that Bowles only had seven fights and that I've beaten guys like this before, instead of reminding me that everyone can get caught and everyone is dangerous. Things just got out of control."

While Torres promises that he is not making the same mistake with Benavidez, it's no secret that a rematch with Bowles to avenge his loss is a top priority.

"If Cruz wins I want to fight Bowles first. If Bowles wins I want to fight for the title. It's not like I have a vendetta against him. I don't hate him. He did a great thing for me. He made me change my style. I needed this to be a better fighter. But I think about it everyday. It motivates me," Torres said.

And as any fighter playing the underdog role in a fight would do, Benavidez views Torres's fixation on a Bowles rematch as an advantage.

"I respect that. I like that talk. That means he's looking ahead to Bowles and I can slip in there and get the win," said Benavidez.

Torres though later reiterated the fact that he is well aware of the problems that Benavidez presents as an opponent and that he'll be ready for any and everything he's got.

"I know that Benavidez is a dangerous fighter. He's a nightmare for a lot of guys. He's extremely fast and extremely powerful. He has knockout power, he's a dangerous wrestler and he has good ground and pound. I don't think his submissions are great, but he's just gonna keep coming. He's one of those guys that you have to knockout or break something to beat him because he won't stop. He'll never slow down. This is a tough fight but I'm ready for it."

Miguel later admitted that his style of aggressive fighting and wanting to please the crowd with great finishes finally caught up to him, and it's another mistake that he doesn't plan on repeating.

"I'm not gonna try to put on a show. I'm not fighting for the fans here. I'm gonna be elusive, I'm gonna make my shots count. In the clinch I'm gonna be aggressive, and on the ground I'm gonna be looking to break something. It's a completely different mindset than I had before."

Joseph Benavidez on the other hand has no obsession with avenging his loss to Cruz. Sure he would like to get another shot at him sometime down the road, but it's a title shot that is first on his list.

After suffering the only loss of his career, Benavidez quickly got back on the winning track in beating Rani Yahya handily, though it didn't exactly come in the fashion he anticipated.

"I would have though that he was gonna try relentlessly for takedowns, but I wasn't surprised that he tried to stand with me. I think he wanted to try to show people he had more than a just a ground game. Once I got used to his approach, I figured I should just go ahead and be aggressive with my striking since he didn't seem to intent on taking the fight to the ground. Luckily for me I landed some good shots and got the finish."

Benavidez also noted that he knew a fight with Torres was up next, and he didn't have to think twice about accepting it.

"Right after that fight with Yahya, they asked me about the Torres fight. They knew I didn't take any damage and I would be ready for the fight. I didn't hesitate at all. It's a great fight for me."

And as everyone would expect, Joseph knows that a great fighter like Torres who is coming of a sobering loss, is going to come back even stronger.

"I'm expecting to fight the best Miguel Torres there has ever been. I think he's more dangerous now than he's ever been. I know its cliché, but a loss can really inspire you. As competitors, it's what drives you."

Though he realizes Torres is going to come in looking to send the message that he's still the best bantamweight out there, Benavidez stated that seeing a guy like that get knocked out in such a devastating way does indeed help his confidence coming into the bout.

"If you see someone you thought was invincible get knocked out, you realize he's just like everybody else. It makes it a lot easier to approach the fight. He's just another man. He got knocked out. Anyone can be knocked out. Sure he's done some great things in the sport, but that motivates me. All that he's accomplished can be mine if I beat him."

And even though he's got all the tools to be a great fighter, Joseph knows that he needs to continue to improve in all aspects of the game, especially when it comes to executing a proper game plan.

"Ever since my loss to Dominick, I've changed the way I train. I used to just rely on my instincts and athleticism to win fights. But Dominick was just as athletic as me and he used a game plan to beat me. I now know that having a game plan is part of the game. I'm approaching it different now."

As to how each fighter sees the contest playing out, lets just say their answers were a bit contrasting.

"I see myself jumping into a flying triangle to take him out in the first 30 seconds," Benavidez jokingly said.

Torres however gave a far more serious prediction.

"I don't see this fight going the distance. I'm gona win by knockout or submission. I'm gonna catch him the second round."

The former champ does seem determined in getting back to the top, but will his desire to avenge the loss to Bowles hurt his chances in beating the dynamic Benavidez?

We'll find out at WEC 47 on March 6 from Columbus, Ohio.

DREAM 13: Chonan vs Nakahara, Minowaman vs Ambriz, Noons vs Amade, Kikuno vs Hironaka added for March 22

With less than a month remaining until DREAM's inaugural event of 2010, Fighting and Entertainment Group announced four fights for the card on Thursday, February 25.

DREAM 13, which features a featherweight title bout between Joachim Hansen and Bibiano Fernandes, will take place on Monday, March 22 at Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. The event will be broadcast on HDNet in North America.

Pride and UFC veteran, Ryo Chonan (16-10), will make his DREAM debut against the Brazilian Kyokushin Karate stylist, Andrews Nakahara (2-1).

Chonan, former mainstay of Pride's Bushido events, made his return to the Japanese promotion, DEEP, after a sub-par stint in UFC. At "Deep - 43 Impact" he bested fellow Pride veteran, Jutaro Nakao. Nakahara made his MMA debut at DREAM 2 and was immediately baptized by fire at the hands of Kazushi Sakuraba. After losing to Sakuraba by submission, he earned back-to-back TKO victories over Dong Sik Yoon and Shungo Oyama. The upcoming bout against Chonan marks his return to MMA competition in nearly a year.

The clash of Japanese champions features Katsunori Kikuno (12-2-2) and Kuniyoshi Hironaka (16-6).

Katsunori Kikuno, current DEEP lightweight champion, suffered the second loss of his career against Eddie Alvarez at DREAM 12 last October. Known for his unique, Kyokushin karate-based style and trademark crecent kick, Kikuno succumbed to Alvarez's arm triangle choke in a seesaw battle between champions under DEEP and Bellator FC banners. UFC veteran, Kuniyoshi Hironaka competed as a welterweight for a large portion of his career. Since dropping to lightweight, he has strung together four-fight winning streak; his victory over Yoshihiro Koyama last September earned him the Cage Force Lightweight title. Earlier this month, he triumphed in his Shoot boxing debut.

The Super Hulk Tournament winner, Minowaman (44-30-8), will go back to his giant-hunting way when he welcomes Jimmy "The Titan" Ambritz (14-12-1) back to the DREAM ring.

Minowaman scored a stunning, KO victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in the final round of the Super Hulk Tournament at Dynamite!! 2009. In addition to Sokoudjou, he dispatched Bob Sapp and Hong Man Choi in the tournament. The former King of the Cage Super Heavyweight Champion, Jimmy Ambriz makes his DREAM return to show Minowaman who the real "Super Hulk" is. In his DREAM debut at DREAM 6, he lost to the former Pride star, Sergei Kharitonov. Since then, he has gone 1-2 with a victory over Chris Clark and consecutive losses to Jeff Monson.

Finally, former Elite XC Lightweight champion, KJ Noons (7-2) will make his DREAM debut against the Chute Boxe/Universidade da luta brawler, Andre Amade (6-4-1).

Noons, who was slated to make his Strikeforce debut last month at "Strikeforce: Miami" is the latest in the recent string of fighters making the promotional leap between Strikeforce and DREAM. His last MMA fight was in June 2008 - a TKO victory over Yves Edwards in Elite XC.

Since then, he has focused on his boxing career, in which his record stands at 8-2 with five knockouts. Amade, on the other hand, is in desperate need of a victory. The long-time training partner of Shogun and Ninja Rua has lost his last three fights against Katsunori Kikuno, Eddie Alvarez, and Gesias Cavalcante. Like Noons, he is known primarily as a striker and has competed in K-1 and Shoot boxing, in addition to MMA.

Stay tuned to MMAmania for more information regarding the DREAM 13 fight card in the coming weeks.
