Reed Harris: 'I'd have Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner fight every show' Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:30 PM PDT Props: MMA Fighting Quoteworthy:
Sounds like a third fight between Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner will indeed take place in the future if WEC General Manager Reed Harris has anything to say about it. Questions is, do you want to see it? Varner took the first bout via split decision when the fight was stopped in the fifth round after Jamie ate at knee to the eye, allegedly, which prevented him from continuing. Last night at WEC 51, "The Cowboy" won a convincing decision evening up the rivalry at one win apiece. The third fight would likely take place at WEC 53 in Varner's home state of Arizona if it is agreed upon. Who wants to see these arch enemies run it back one more time? |
UFC Quick Quote: BJ Penn has no animosity towards Matt Hughes Posted: 01 Oct 2010 12:03 PM PDT
Well so much for a grudge match. BJ Penn told Fighters Only that his feelings towards Matt Hughes have changed over the years. What once was a bitter rivalry between the two former UFC champions now seems no more. With their trilogy fight set for UFC 123 on November 20 in Detroit, Michigan, "The Prodigy" makes it clear that emotions won't have much of a role in the contest. Penn even goes so far as to say that there isn't anything he wouldn't do for Hughes. Say what? You surprised by these comments? Do you believe that in this case, like BJ states, time heals all wounds? |

UFC 121: Paulo Thiago camp has 'great expectations' for Diego Sanchez fight Posted: 01 Oct 2010 09:17 AM PDT Props: Tatame.com Quoteworthy:
Constrictor Team Leader Ataide Junior expects great things from Brazilian supercop Paulo Thiago, who tries to re-establish his place in the welterweight division when he takes on Diego Sanchez at UFC 121 on Oct. 23 in Anaheim. Both fighters are coming off a loss however, Sanchez may have a greater sense of urgency after dropping two straight. Will his aggressiveness become a "Nightmare" for the crafty Brazilian? Or will Thiago prove that Sanchez is no longer a force in today's fight game? |

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 07:40 AM PDT Michael Bisping wraps filming on "Hollyoaks Later," a television spin-off of the British soap opera "Hollyoaks." From the "Count:" "I recently filmed some episodes for Hollyoaks Late Night. Some people will laugh at it, but the storyline is fantastic and I'm proud to be a part of it. I can't say too much about the plot, but it comes on our screens on October 25 ... I seemed to have a natural flair for acting and it's something I enjoy. There are a couple of other projects in the pipeline now and I'm interested in doing more." Props: SkySports |

WEC 51: Jose Aldo wanted to take 'the shortest route to the end of the fight' Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:49 AM PDT But was kind enough to let Manny Gamburyan have the first round to get some work in...
WEC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo throws another body on the pile after making Manny Gamburyan's legs twitch at the WEC 51 Versus event last night (Sept. 30) in Broomfield. "Junior" tells reporters at the post fight press conference (via his translator) that he's ready to accept the next challenge in his division. Is there anyone at 145-pounds that can stop him? Or even give him a run for his money? Or is the Brazilian's future at lightweight as a UFC fighter? |
Bellator 31 results for Sept. 30 in Lake Charles Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:21 AM PDT Lake Charles, LA (September 30, 2010) - Bellator Fighting Championships made its first trip to Lake Charles, LA tonight with Bellator 31. A sellout crowd at the L'Auberge du Lac Resort enjoyed an exciting night of fights highlighted by two Season 3 Women's semifinal matchups with the #1 ranked pound-for-pound female fighter in the world Megumi "Mega Megu" Fujii taking on dangerous veteran Lisa Ward and explosive striker Zoila "The Warrior Princess" Frausto facing submission specialist Jessica "Jag" Aguilar. Also on the card was a Bellator Season 4 Welterweight Tournament Qualifying fight between undefeated knockout artist Chris "The Assassin" Lozano and dangerous UFC veteran Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida. It was Frausto and Aguilar who kicked off the Women's semifinal action, with "The Warrior Princess" establishing herself as the more aggressive fighter at the sound of the opening bell. As the fight progressed, Frausto made use of her devastating leg kicks to gain the advantage, before Aguilar begain to gain momentum on the feet in the third and final round. After three back-and-forth rounds of action, it was Frausto who picked up the hard-fought split decision victory and a spot in the Women's Final match set to take place in Florida on October 28. "Jessica was incredibly tough tonight, but I thought I did really well," said Frausto. "I'm just really excited to fight in the Finals." In the night's second Women's semifinal of the evening, it was Fujii pushing the action early against Ward, cautiously looking for an opening. As Ward recovered from an early first round takedown, Fujii attacked and locked Ward up in a fight ending armbar submission that forced the tap. The impressive victory kept Fujii's perfect record intact, which gave her a new MMA record, and more importantly punched her ticket to the Bellator Women's Final. "Now I get to go back to Japan and rest up," said an excited Fujii. "For the championship fight against Zoila, I'm really going to focus on my striking ability, and come back to the States strong and try and win the Bellator Championship." In Welterweight action Chris "The Assassin" Lozano faced former UFC fighter and dangerous Judo black belt Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida. Lozano took control early in the fight, delivering a spinning elbow to the ribs of Yoshida that sent him to the canvas. "The Assassin" picked up where he left off in the second round, where a hard right hand caused Yoshida's eye to swell almost completely shut, and forced the stoppage at the conclusion of the round. "We saw some great fights tonight, including a razor thin decision that went Zoila's way," said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. "This facility was great, and we really enjoyed ourselves here at L'Auberge du Lac Resort, and would love to come back." Main Card Results • Chris Lozano def. Yoshiyuki Yoshida via TKO (corner stoppage) - Round 2, 5:00 • Zoila Frausto def. Jessica Aguilar via split decision (30-27, 27-30, 30-27) • Megumi Fujii def.
