UFC 125: Antonio McKee vs Jacob Volkmann possible for Jan. 1 in Las Vegas Posted: 02 Oct 2010 11:41 PM PDT The UFC debut of lightweight star Antonio McKee has just taken one step closer to becoming a reality. "Mandingo" has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to square off against Jacob Volkmann at the upcoming UFC 125 event, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 1 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to several published reports. The 25-3 lightweight, who has not dropped a bout in more than seven years (2003), indicated last month that he had reached a four-fight deal with the UFC after spending the past year and a half competing for Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC). McKee recently finished Luciano Azevedo at MFC 26: 'Retribution" back on Sept. 10 for his fifteenth straight win. Standing in his way will be Volkmann, who shaved off a few pounds to throw hands in the UFC lightweight division after back-to-back losses at welterweight. New and certainly improved at 155-pounds, "Christmas" racked up consecutive wins in the second half of his 2010 fight campaign, taking decision wins over Ronnys Torres and Paul Kelly. A victory over McKee would certainly go a long way in establishing him as a force in the UFC's crowded lightweight division. UFC 125, though not officially announced, is expected to be headlined by division champion Frankie Edgar, as he defends his title in a rematch against undefeated Gray Maynard. Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann and Thiago Silva vs. Brandon Vera are also expected to be announced for the Jan. 1 pay-per-view in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates to this still-developing fight card. |

Jon Jones vs Ryan Bader likely for UFC 127 on Feb. 5, 2011 Posted: 02 Oct 2010 10:05 AM PDT Sensational light heavyweight prospects Jon Jones and Ryan Bader have already been offered bout agreements to hook 'em up in early 2011, according to MMAweekly. The showdown will most likely take place at the yet-to-be-announced UFC 127, which is tentatively scheduled to take place on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ever since coming to the UFC, Jones has made a name for himself in short time, defeating the likes of Stephan Bonnar, Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko all in impressive fashion. His only "loss" was from a controversial disqualification against Matt Hamil. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8, Bader has transformed from a one dimensional wrestler to a well rounded mixed martial artist. "Darth" took a step up in competition when he faced Keith Jardine and an even bigger step when he met Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. He passed both tests, knocking out Jardine and defeating Nogueira by unanimous decision to push his record to a perfect 12-0. If the fight is finalized, it would be a rare instance where two up-and-coming prospects square off against one another with a potential title shot on the line. Stay glued to MMAmania.com for more on this fight and all others in the works for UFC 127. |
Alistair Overeem vs Ben Edwards K-1 video from Seoul on Oct. 2 Posted: 02 Oct 2010 06:51 AM PDT And credit to Edwards for not dying after that second overhand right. Ouch. |
K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final 16 quick results from Seoul Posted: 02 Oct 2010 06:41 AM PDT K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final 16, from Olympic Park on Oct. 2 in Seoul Korea, is officially in the books. And any of that pre-fight hype surrounding Ben Edwards heading into his main event fight against Alistair Overeem was quickly tossed into a dumpster in the nearby Garak Market shortly into the opening stanza. "Demolition Man" started throwing bombs and never stopped and after two minutes of Edwards getting tooled, the headlining bout was mercifully brought to a close. Longtime K-1 fixture Semmy Schilt was also victorious, albeit in very different fashion, as "Hightower" squeaked past Hesdy Gerges via split decision. Also taking home the "W" were fellow kickboxing legends "Mighty Mo" Siligia and Peter Aerts as well as former PRIDE star Sergei Kharitonov. Perhaps the match most people are talking about was the Jerome LeBanner vs. Keijiro Maeda slugfest that initially ended in a draw. Despite a chance to prove he was the better fighter when the bout went into overtime, a disgusted LeBanner decided he'd put in his time and packed his bags, awarding Maeda the DQ win following "Geronimo's" abandonment.
