UFC Quick Quote: Quinton Jackson doesn’t care what Joe Rogan wants to see in a fight Posted: 09 Mar 2009 03:00 PM PDT
-Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson responds to Joe Rogan’s UFC 96 commentary via Steve Cofield on Cagewriter following his unanimous decision win over Keith Jardine at the “Jackson vs. Jardine” event on March 8. “Rampage” has been taking some heat for his performance against “The Dean of Mean,” but nevertheless still walked out of The Nationwide Arena a winner last Saturday with a chance to challenge Rashad Evans for the 205-pound strap at UFC 98 on May 23. After all, a win is a win…or is it? |

Josh Neer vs Kurt Pellegrino UFC Fight Night bout possible for August 5 Posted: 09 Mar 2009 12:12 PM PDT MMAmania.com has been able to confirm that a lightweight match up between 155-pound veterans Josh Neer (25-7-1) and Kurt Pellegrino (13-4) is in the works for an upcoming UFC Fight Night planned for August 5. While both fighters are in verbal agreement, bout contracts have yet to be signed. Since posting a 2-3 record in the UFC, "The Dentist" won six of seven fights outside the promotion before returning to the Octagon and defeating Din Thomas by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 13. He followed that up with a split decision loss to Nate Diaz, but not before earning "Fight of the Night" in their three-round war at UFC Fight Night 15 back in September. Neer, who promises "Win, lose or draw I'm going to bring it," would go on to nab his second straight "Fight of the Night" in a win over Mac Danzig at FN 17, which no doubt prompted the UFC to award him with a recent contract extension for his efforts inside the cage and his ability to electrify the crowd with his aggressiveness. It’s going to take every ounce of that talent for Neer to get past the crafty Pellegrino. “Batman” has flirted with being recognized as a top competitor in a very crowded division on numerous occasions throughout his career; however, he has been plagued by inconsistency just as he reaches the precipice of contendership. After being submitted by Nate Diaz at Fight Night 13 last April, Pellegrino was able to string together two consecutive wins including a solid unanimous decision nod over Thiago Tavares at UFC 88: "Breakthrough" back in September and a submission victory over Rob Emerson at FN 17 just last month. A win over the surging Neer would unquestionable re-establish him as a force to be reckoned with. A name and location for the August 5 event have yet to be announced, but keep it locked in to MMAmania.com for more information as it becomes available. |

UFC 96: OAC tests 11 fighters for drugs after ‘Jackson vs. Jardine’ event Posted: 09 Mar 2009 09:22 AM PDT The Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC) announced today that 11 of the 20 combatants who competed at UFC 96: "Jackson vs. Jardine″ at the Nationwide Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 8 were tested for illegal/banned substances. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson along with Shane Carwin, Matt Brown, Matt Hamill, Gray Maynard, Tamdan McCrory, Kendall Grove, Jason Day, Jason Brilz, Brandon Vera and Shane Nelson were all screened for performance enhancers such as steroids, as well as drugs of abuse like cocaine and marijuana, among others. Results of these tests should be available soon, which MMAmania.com will pass along as quickly as possible. The fighters mentioned above were randomly selected. However, athletic commissions typically test the main event participants and fight night winners, as well as those who have failed tests in the past. UFC dished out $762,000 in fighter salaries for the pay-per-view (PPV) event and another $180,000 in additional bonus money for three participants who delivered outstanding performances. Rampage defeated Keith Jardine via unanimous decision to earn another crack at the 205-pound title against “Sugar” Rashad Evans at UFC 98 on May 23. And heavyweight sensation Shane Carwin put himself into possible title contention with a first round drubbing of established veteran Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga. Gonzaga fell to surging goliath Shane Carwin while Vera kicked Michael Patt’s legs into the fourth row.
