Fabricio Werdum: UFC heavyweight division is ‘weak’ besides Nogueira

“I would fight with anyone, but if I could choose, I would like to make a rematch with Arlovski. That fight wasn't cool, it was a debut against an ex-champion. Some people said that I won, others that he won or tied, but I want a rematch with him and then fight with Fedor, which is the will of everyone, he is the best in the world. This thing of saying that (Brock) Lesnar is the best in the world doesn't exist, I'm against that. The guy has four fights and is already the world champion? Everybody knows that Fedor is the best. In heavy, I think the best are in Affliction. Apart from Minotauro, the rest in the UFC are weak. The UFC has what he wanted, two Americans to fight the “final”. The marketing is the most important thing, they are good at it. Frank Mir also, this final among them doesn't exist.”

Former Pride FC and UFC veteran Fabricio Werdum shares his thoughts on the talent level in the current UFC heavyweight division, calling it “weak” with the exception of Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira. Werdum competed three times inside the Octagon before getting cut, losing to Andrei Arlovski, defeating Gabriel Gonzaga (again) and getting floored by Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos. The Brazilian is particularly not impressed with the two champions atop the division, Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir, which is “what the UFC wanted” for marketing purposes. Sour grapes or true story?

Nate Marquardt: Georges St. Pierre is the pound-for-pound best, not Anderson Silva

Definitely. You look at Anderson Silva and he has holes in his game. People can point out holes in his game. No one can point out a hole in Georges’ game. [Silva’s] a great finisher. So even though he has holes in his game no one has been able to capitalize on it. He’s able to get out of trouble, and any time he hurts his opponent he’s been able to finish. That’s what makes him a great fighter.

-Former number one middleweight contender Nate “The Great” Marquardt, looking to earn a title rematch against UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva with a win over the dangerous Wilson Gouveia at UFC 95 ‘Sanchez vs. Stevenson,’ is confident that his friend and training partner Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is the worlds pound-for-pound best. Perhaps one day GSP can move up in weight to settle that debate, assuming both he and “The Spider” can get past their upcoming opponents.

Wanderlei Silva ready to ‘test’ move to middleweight

“Yeah, I could try because every guy in my division have to cut to 205 and my normal is 208. I’m going to test now… I’m going to cut my weight. Maybe I go to fight in my next fight at 185. I could fight in both divisions; I could fight 185 and 205…. I don’t know what plans the UFC, but I am ready for to fight in June or July.”

Former Pride FC middleweight champion (205 pounds) and current competitor in the UFC light heavyweight division, Wanderlei Silva, suggests that he is going to experiment with a cut down to 185 pounds to see if it’s a weight he could make without incident. If all goes well “The Axe Murderer” — who has lost two of his last three fights inside the Octagon and four of his last five fights — is open to putting his skills to the test in the middleweight class. He clearly needs to change something up and perhaps a move down would do the trick. The Brazilian striker, however, is swift to point out that if it does happen it won’t be permanent, pulling a page out of the Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin playbooks by alternating between classes. Silva would like to return at UFC 100 in July.
