Matt Hughes just wants to keep having fun against BJ Penn at UFC 123 Posted: 19 Sep 2010 07:49 PM PDT That's all the former champion really waaaaaaaaaaants ... some fun (via Montreal Gazette):
A refreshed Matt Hughes, who is apparently really enjoying his current three-fight win streak, provides some insight into his current state of mind as he prepares to take on BJ Penn for the third and likely final time at UFC 123 in two months. The most dominant welterweight champion of his era, Hughes now does what he does because it's a good time. He's not concerned with adding another belt to his collection, just another Hawaiian pelt to hang above his fireplace. Is Hughes in for yet another fun night on Nov. 20 or will "The Prodigy" rain on his parade in "Motor City?" |

UFC Quick Quote: Rogerio Nogueira is on his way to the top if he can beat Ryan Bader Posted: 19 Sep 2010 02:05 PM PDT "I’ve got less than one year in UFC and got many things to do there. There are many good people, many guys who has showed their value inside the Octagon, but I’m on my way for sure with short steps but I want to keep myself undefeated if God blesses me. Ryan Bader is a very strong man, very good at wrestling and really has good qualities. He’s very quick, intelligent, complete. And can apply takedowns and use a good ground and pound on the ground. I will guarantee that the fight keeps stand up, but if it goes to the mat it will develop well and I think that he will find a good leg defense with me." -- Rogerio Nogueira foresees a great future for himself with the biggest mixed martial arts organization of the plane, telling Blog Sensei (video interview) that it's just a matter of time to get the top of the light heavyweight division. Standing in his way is Ryan Bader -- a tough wrestler who has come along way since his winning performance on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). But "Minotouro" believes his boxing skills are better and is confident that his takedown defense is good enough to keep the fight on the feet ... despite being a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. Do you consider Rogerio so good at boxing and wrestling to dominate Bader standing or he’d better be smart to make do with his jiu-jitsu for a ground match? And, with a win, does "Lil Nog" punch his ticket to a high profile 205-pound battle with title implications on the line? |
Chael Sonnen drug test returns positive for PEDs following UFC 117 bout with Anderson Silva Posted: 19 Sep 2010 05:58 AM PDT Say it ain't so. Chael Sonnen has been informed by California State Athletic Commission that he flunked his drug test following his epic fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117 back in August, according to Sherdog.com. Sonnen could not be reached for comment and the commission would not provide additional details on the actual illegal substance pumping through Sonnen's system in the report. However,"drugs of abuse" were ruled out, meaning that it was most likely of the performance-ehancing variety. If these allegations are upheld, Sonnen could face a lengthy suspension, jeopardizing his rematch with "The Spider" early next year. Sonnen, who railed against Lance Armstrong for his alleged use of steroids, now joins Josh Barnett and Sean Sherk on a lengthy list of fighters that the CSAC has fingered for illegal substances. More on this breaking news as it happens. |
KSW 14: 'Judgement Day' fight results Posted: 18 Sep 2010 04:05 PM PDT Poland's premiere MMA promotion, Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki aka KSW, held its14th event earlier today at the Lodz Arena in Lodz, Poland. The fight card featured the final round of KSW’s light-heavyweight grand prix, as well as the first two rounds of their first ever, eight-man lightweight tournament. Headlining the card was a heavyweight clash between Mariusz Pudzianowski and Eric Esch – also known as that fat goober Butterbean. Pudz, who was looking to rebound after suffering his first professional loss (to former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia), entered the fight with Esch noticeably smaller than we had seen previously. His decision to drop some of that acquired muscle mass was because he needed to be much faster than he had been before. Smart decision, but did it do him any good against the former professional boxer who has more than 100 fights to his name? Full results for KSW 14 are as follows: KSW Lightweight Tournament Quarterfinal Round:
KSW Lightweight Tournament Semifinals:
KSW Light-Heavyweight Tournament Final:
KSW Super-Fights:
*Lightweight tournament finalists Niko Puhakka and Maciej Gorski will fight at the yet-to-be-announced KSW 15. |
