Frank Mir vs Mirko Cro Cop UFC 119 main event 'one of the worst in modern Ultimate Fighting Championship history'

So says Kevin Iole at Yahoo!Sports this morning after Frank Mir and Mirko Cro Cop "played patty cake and hugged each other" for 14 of 15 minutes.

A sad reality not lost on the former champion:

"It was a pretty shitty performance. I could have pushed the pace a bit more.... At least I could take an easy breath that if didn't go to a judges decision. I'll make the statement that shitty win is better than a shitty loss. That being said, it's only a highlight. I'm completely pissed off with my performance."

So "shitty" that UFC President Dana White refused to award a "Knockout of the Night" bonus even though Cro Cop was absolutely leveled in the final moments of the fight. Mir certainly added a fantastic finish to his career highlight reel over a legend, but it may always have an asterisk next to it because of the 14 painful minutes that preceded it. Is this all much ado about nothing -- the critics are being to harsh -- or is all the flack justified after their performances? Can you name a more disappointing main event? Let's hear your top five in the comments section below.

Sean McCorkle shows UFC fans why the promotion was in no big hurry to employ Mark Hunt after the dissolution of PRIDE FC.

Despite his striking prowess and natural charisma, the Samoan super-slugger just doesn't have the ground skills to compete with today's heavyweight fighters.

Jon Jones vs Ryan Bader? 'Darth' not ready to 'rush into anything'

Quoteworthy:

"I'm getting there, I'm young in the sport and I'm in no rush. 205, there's a bunch of tough guys and the title's gonna keep rotating. Anything can happen, we're powerful, quick guys and I see [the title] changing hands a few times. I'm not really rushing into anything, just taking it one fight at a time. You can't start looking towards a title shot, you gotta look at here and now. I got through Nogueira, that's what I was focusing on the whole time. Who knows who's next and we'll figure it out from there."

UFC light heavyweight contender Ryan Bader inches his way closer to a 205-pound title shot after defeating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 119 on Sept. 25 in Indianapolis. The TUF 8 champ and undefeated powerhouse may be on a possible collision course with fellow surging prospect Jon Jones but doesn't sound like he's in any big rush to throw down with "Bones." Is there any other match-up in this division that makes sense? Or will these two battle for the next shot at division gold?

Boo-hoo: Sean Sherk confused with fan reaction after decision win over Evan Dunham at UFC 119

Quoteworthy:

"I knew the fight was close. I think I had the first round pretty decisive. The second round was close. And the third round, I would give that to Dunham. So it depends on what the judges are watching. Anytime you go to a judges decision you're at their mercy.... We were throwing down out there -- he was hitting me hard, I was hitting him hard, he was bleeding all over the place. It had to be exciting. If I was a fan I would have had a good time, so I don't know why [the fans] are booing me. We went out there and threw down. We left our hearts out there. There was nothing left inside that Octagon."

Former 155-pound champion Sean Sherk still couldn't get his arms around the reason fans at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, reacted the way they did after his split decision win over Evan Dunham last night at UFC 119. "The Muscle Shark" argues that he took the first and and at the very least split the second, which was good enough despite losing the third and final round. It was certainly razor thin, considering that the previously undefeated Dunham started to punish Sherk at the end of the second round and kept going until the very end. Sherk also survived several submission attempts, which he admitted were tight, but never really all that dangerous. Sherk, on the other hand, never attempted a submission and didn't really hurt the Xtreme Couture product with the exception of opening up a grisly gash above his right eye with a well-placed elbow in the opening frame. Is it possible that all that blood influenced at least one judges decisions or did Sherk do enough with his wrestling and ground and pound to earn the victory outright?

'Pitbull' rematch? Chris Lytle ready to finish what he started against Thiago Alves after UFC 119 win (Video)

Posted: 26 Sep 2010 06:44 AM PDT

Chris Lytle had a very close (and very exciting) bout with Thiago Alves stopped at UFC 78 after "Lights Out" suffered a gusher that officials felt was deep enough to halt the contest.

Anyone else want to see these two hook 'em up for a second time?
