Report: Kim Couture arrested for domestic violence after allegedly choking personal assistant

Posted: 01 Jun 2010 10:48 PM PDT

Kim Couture, female mixed martial artist and ex-wife of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, was arrested for domestic violence over the weekend stemming from an attack on her personal assistant according to a report from MMA News Leak and later confirmed by Five Ounces of Pain.

While an arrest for domestic violence is uncommon in non-couples, the charge may have been applicable because Ms. Couture shared a home with her assistant, who was allegedly being choked and showed visible signs of abuse when police arrived.

Couture was booked into the Clark County Detention Center but has since posted bail and been released.

"Sugar Free" owns a professional fight record of 2-2 and was last seen at Xtreme Fighters 1, stopping Rosa Vizcarra via first round technical knockout back in March.

Lee Murray: Cage fighter sentenced to 10 years in Morocco for 'masterminding' the biggest bank robbery in UK

One-time UFC fighter, Lee Murray, was sentenced to 10 years in a Moroccan prison for his involvement in the largest bank raid in British history in 2006, according to BBC News.

"Lightning" bolted for northern Africa shortly after he and six other associates stole more than £53 million from the Securitas cash depot in Kent, England.

It was, and still is, the largest cash heist to ever go down in the history of the nation.

For years, British prosecutors tried to extradite the ex-fighter while they successfully tracked down and jailed his accomplices; however, the Moroccan government refused to ship him back because his father was of Moroccan descent.

Instead, Murray -- who was already serving three years in prison for an unrelated incident -- had his case on the bank robbery charges heard in a Moroccan court.

He is scheduled for release in 2020.

Murray defeated Jorge Rivera via first round submission (strikes) at UFC 46, which was his only appearance inside the Octagon. He is perhaps better known in the fight world for his exploits outside the cage, however, brawling with Tito Ortiz in a street fight following UFC 38 in July 2002.

Murray is 8-2 overall in mixed martial arts competition. He last fought in September of 2004 at Cage Rage 8, dropping a unanimous decision to current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.

UFC 114 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Rampage vs Evans'

Posted: 01 Jun 2010 04:31 PM PDT

Ouch

Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for UFC 114: "Rampage vs. Evans," which took place on Saturday, May 29, 2010, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were a handful of fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors.

Chief among them is Mike Russow (broken left ulna/forearm) — who took a licking and kept on ticking against fellow up-and-coming heavyweight Todd Duffee. Also getting benched were Diego Sanchez (left-eye laceration), Dong Hyun Kim (right-eyelid laceration) and Efrain Escudero (scalp and left-eyelid lacerations).

But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC 114 injuries and their medical instructions:

Dan Miller: Suspended until June 29, no contact until June 20 (upper-eyelid laceration)
Todd Duffee: Suspended until July 14, no contact until June 29 (precautionary reasons)
Mike Russow: Suspended until July 14, no contact until June 29 (upper-eyelid laceration), additional suspension until Nov. 26 due to broken left ulna/forearm (unless cleared by a physician)
Diego Sanchez: Suspended until June 29, no contact until June 20 (left-eye laceration), additional suspension to run indefinitely until cleared by ophthalmologist (possible right-eye corneal abrasion)
Amir Sadollah: Suspended until June 29, no contact until June 20 (precautionary reasons), additional suspension until Nov. 26 due to possible right-hand and right-ankle injuries (unless cleared by an orthopedic doctor)
Dong Hyun Kim: Suspended until June 20, no contact until June 13 (right-eyelid laceration)
Efrain Escudero: Suspended until July 14, no contact until June 29 (scalp and left-eyelid lacerations)
Waylon Lowe: Suspended until June 29, no contact until June 20 (precautionary reasons), additional suspension until Nov. 26 due to possible chest injury (unless cleared by an orthopedic doctor)
Luiz Cane: Suspended until Nov. 26 (fractured left-maxillary sinus) unless cleared by ear-nose-throat doctor
Jesse Forbes: Suspended until June 13, no contact until June 6 (precautionary reasons)

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

Josh Koscheck: 'I don't understand how Dana White can say I'm not a team player'

"Dana White doesn't like me, apparently. That's what he says. I'm not a team player. I don't understand how he can say that. To go on record and say that, I think that's a bunch of (expletive). I'm the type of fighter that steps up and fights anybody, anytime, anyplace. I've taken short-notice fights for him. I always do whatever I'm asked. I'm going to prove I'm a team player by winning the show and the welterweight title. [Dennis Rodman] was one of the best rebounders in the NBA, but he didn't really get noticed until he started acting like a crazy man. At the end of the day, I've got to do things for myself and my business to make money so I don't have to work. It's not like we're getting paid $50 million or $60 million a fight like (Floyd) Mayweather."

UFC welterweight number one contender Josh Koscheck is a bit perplexed by promotion president Dana White, who recently slammed the AKA product for "being a dick," among other things. "Kos" lets the record speak for itself regarding his UFC tenure and plans on getting back at Dana the best way he knows how: By dethroning current 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre. Does Koscheck have the tools to prove it? Or is he all bark and no bite? Opinions, please.

UFC event in Afghanistan possible for January 2011

"It's going to happen, but even when it does happen, we're not going to be able to talk about it. It's going to be a stealth mission. We're going to zoom in there, put on a fight and get the hell out. If we're going to go in there and spend the money to shoot it, it's got to be TV quality. It's got to be up to our standards to be shown on television. In a perfect world, we show this on television, we show troops in between each round, guys sending messages back home. If we can do what we want to do, this will be an incredible event. We just want to do it. You know how I am with the military. We just want to do it."

UFC President Dana White details the promotion's plans for holding an eventual event in Afghanistan, early next year most likely. The card would obviously be a logistical nightmare, but White has always been extremely supportive of the United States Armed Forces and is clearly willing to do whatever it takes to make the card happen. Though the card would not be broadcast live and may not even be shown via tape delay to the rest of the world outside of Afghanistan, let's all hope the UFC is successful in pulling off this daring endeavor if they indeed decide to go through with it.

'Rampage' Jackson: 'Acting is kind of gay'

"Acting is kind of gay. It makes you soft. You got all these people combing your hair and putting a coat over your shoulders when you're cold. I don't want a coat over my shoulders! I'm a tough-ass [individual]! (In Hollywood) there's a thing called 'pecking order.' I'm not used to that. People can be really inconsiderate of people's feelings. I wasted three weekends in a row waiting in my trailer when they didn't use me at all. To be honest, my experience in this movie industry hasn't always been good. If you know one thing about me, I say time is the most valuable thing in this universe. I hate wasting time. And these [individuals] wasted a lot of my...time! Overall, I was glad I experienced the stuff. But sometimes I have mixed feelings. Sometimes I think, 'Damn, I should have taken that (UFC 107) fight.'"

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson didn't appreciate being coddled on the set of the "A-Team" movie, especially in an industry that wastes his time and makes him soft. "Rampage" was unsuccessful in his return to the UFC back on May 29, dropping a unanimous decision to bitter rival "Suga" Rashad Evans in Las Vegas. Did the gayness of acting hurt his in-cage performance? Or was the Evans bout too much, too soon?

UFC Quick Quote: Ricardo Arona eyes return to light heavyweight division

"[Our meeting] was better than I expected, because (Dana White) is a very busy guy, we’ve been seeing this great event, a great show he is promoting. It was a while since we last spoke and there were some rumors in the internet, some interviews… What really happened was that he said he was really glad to see me here, asked about my last fight, where it was, how it was and I told him and also said I wanted an opportunity to rejoin the event on the end of the year, a chance to be here and he said he wanted me on his event, that I have a space for me here on his event and that he only had to talk to his manager and then we would set things up. He said the doors were opened to me, but he would have to consult first his manager. It was much better than I expected, he was really honest and friendly, so it’s enough for me to come back to the hard trainings with an extra energy ... It’s a motivation for all my trainings from today on. That’s what I needed to hear. He said we have to keep in touch, so I just have to follow these steps to come closer to the treasure. First I have to worry about my knee recover and I said to him it would be a good thing for me to do a comeback on the end of the year and he said it’d be ok. He told me to take care of my knee while he consults his manager. He was very friendly and honest and so was I and now what I have to do is to keep in touch with him and I’m much closer than I expected."

Former PRIDE light heavyweight contender Ricardo Arona tells Tatame.com that his UFC debut may happen towards the end of this year after some encouraging discussions with promotion president Dana White. "The Brazilian Tiger" has only competed once since his stunning upset loss to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou back at PRIDE 33 in 2007, a decision win over Marvin Eastman at last September's Bitetti Combat. Can he still be a force at 205-pounds? Or will his recent injuries and extended layoff hurt his chances for a possible "Shogun" rematch? Thoughts?

UFC Fight Night 22: Cole Miller vs Ross Pearson possible for Sept. 15

Posted: 01 Jun 2010 07:14 AM PDT

Miller-pearson_medium

There's a fantastic lightweight battle brewing between up-and-coming 155-pound prospects Cole Miller (16-4) and Ross Pearson (11-3), currently under consideration for the UFC Fight Night 22 card on September 15 in Texas.

MMAmania.com can confirm the two sides have been approached after Ariel Helwani brought word of the proposed match-up back on May 29.

Miller was hoping to build off his "Submission of the Night" win over Dan Lauzon back at UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva" last January; however, an undisclosed injury forced "Magrinho" to withdraw from his scheduled throwdown with Andre Winner at UFC Fight Night 21 in March.

The former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) star is 5-2 since making his promotion debut in June 2007 and holds victories over Leonard Garcia, Jorge Gurgel and Junie Browning.

While Miller wasn't able to win his division on TUF, Pearson indeed proved he was "The Real Deal" by not only taking home the trophy from the Spike TV reality series, but also by staying undefeated since that time with dominating wins over Aaron Riley and Denis Siver.

The stocky Brit could make a case for his place among the lightweight title contenders with a finish over the crafty Miller.

UFC Fight Night 22 is expected to feature a headlining bout between middleweights Alan "The Talent" Belcher and Demian Maia. Staunch lightweights Jim Miller and Gleison Tibau are also in talks to hook 'em up.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates on this still-developing fight card.

Dana White: 'Diego Sanchez looked soft at 170'

"I don't think Diego belongs at 170. I think it's easier to be at 170. He looked soft. He looked real lethargic and slow and heavy. [One] fifty-five, Diego. Fifty-five. He's a tough guy. I'm not his manager, but I think he should stay at 155. Listen, a loss to B.J. Penn doesn't mean you go back up to 170. It means you stay at 155 and you do what Kenny Florian did. You stay in there and keep grinding it out and beating the top guys, and you get back in line and work your way up to the top again. Diego does not look good at 170."

Count UFC President Dana White among the many mixed martial arts pundits who believe Diego Sanchez belongs in the lightweight division following his loss to 170-pound rising star John Hathaway at UFC 114 last Saturday night in Las Vegas. "Nightmare" moved down a weight class after he felt he sacrificed too much size as a welterweight and despite a TKO loss to BJ Penn, has a successful run as a 155-pounder. Does the "Hitman" loss indicate he should have stayed where he was? Or was it just a tough loss for a fighter who is still adjusting to the larger weight?
