UFC medical suspensions and injuries for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale Posted: 21 Jun 2010 01:23 PM PDT The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today issued its list of medical suspensions for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale which took place on Saturday, June 19, from the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. With several of the bouts ending early (and violently), there were quite a few fighters who were flagged follow up visits with their doctors. Chief among them is Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine — who was sliced and diced en route to a majority decision loss to Matt "The Hammer" Hamill. Joining him on the injured reserves are fellow TUF guys Brad Tavares, Seth Baczynski and James McSweeney, who all suffered head lacerations in their respective bouts. TUF 11 finalist, Kris "Savage" McCray, is also benched for a left eyebrow laceration suffered in his submission loss to the unscathed Court "Crusher" McGee. But that's not all. Here is the complete list of TUF 11 Finale injuries and their medical instructions: Kris McCray: Suspended until Aug.. 3, no contact until July 19 (left-eyebrow laceration). Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. UFC Quick Quote: Fedor and his 'lunatics' don't want to do business -- we gotta get over it Posted: 21 Jun 2010 12:15 PM PDT
Dana White reaffirms to 790 the Ticket in Miami (via SportsRadioInterviews.com) what is becoming widely accepted among mixed martial arts fans: Russian Heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will probably never fight under the Zuffa banner before calling it quits on his illustrious career. Of course the anti-"Emperors" will cite this as the biggest reason why he can't be considered as king of the heavyweights. But does the former PRIDE Heavyweight Champion need a UFC run to validate his legacy? The debate continues... |
UFC fighter salaries and paydays for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale Posted: 21 Jun 2010 11:10 AM PDT The official fighter purses for those who competed at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale this past Saturday night (June 19) from the "The Pearl" at The Palms Resort and Casino were released earlier today by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). As expected, main card participants and UFC veterans Chris "The Crippler" Leben ($70,000) and Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine ($55,000) were the big earners of the night -- though in Jardine's case it was on the losing end of a majority decision to Matt "The Hammer" Hamill ($52,000). Also bringing in some decent coin was Dennis Siver ($34,000) in his unanimous decision win over Spencer "The King" Fisher ($26,000). TUF 11 champion Court "Crusher" McGee banked a meager $16,000 but won the hearts of UFC fans and a "six-figure" contract for submitting Kris "Savage" McCray ($8,000). Here is the complete list of the TUF 11 Finale payouts: Court McGee: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Matt Hamill: $52,000 ($26,000 to show, $26,000 to win) Chris Leben: $70,000 ($35,000 to show, $35,000 to win) Dennis Siver: $34,000 ($17,000 to show, $17,000 to win) Rich Attonito: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) John Gunderson: $10,000 ($5,000 to show, $5,000 to win) Brad Tavares: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Kyle Noke: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Chris Camozzi: $16,000 ($8,000 to show, $8,000 to win) Travis Browne: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 to win) Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc. For example, the UFC often hands out extra cash for "Fight of the Night," "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night." To check out these figures for the TUF 11 Finale go here. The total base fighter payroll for the Spike TV event, which attracted an unofficial crowd of 1,708 attendees and a live gate of $430,250, was $406,000. Worlds Collide: EA Sports MMA video game trailer featuring Randy Couture vs. Fedor Emelianenko Posted: 21 Jun 2010 09:41 AM PDT Worlds Collide: EA Sports MMA video game trailer featuring Randy Couture vs. Fedor Emelianenko |
Shane Carwin has a little message for the MMA media... Posted: 21 Jun 2010 09:16 AM PDT ...and he makes a pretty strong case for his UFC 116: "Lesnar vs. Carwin" preparations.
UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin sounds off via his official blog -- a site he names as the best place to interact with his fans -- regarding the beating he's taken by some members of the mixed martial arts media for his perceived media blackout heading into the UFC's biggest pay-per-view of the year on July 3. In addition to his media access, "The Engineer" also defends his salary and decision not to participate in smack talk. Give it a look and let's hear what you think. Is he not doing enough to sell the fight? Or is he one of the few fighters still keeping it real? What's your take? (Photo courtesy of Lift Studios) |
Strikeforce: We have not signed former WWE wrestler 'Batista' Posted: 21 Jun 2010 08:52 AM PDT WWE fans who got their hopes up earlier this morning may be disappointed to learn that former wrestling star Dave Bautista has not been signed by Strikeforce just yet. That's according to Strikeforce officials, who today tell MMAmania.com that a previous report by TMZ, indicating the 40-year-old wrestler-turned-budding mixed martial artist had joined the San Jose based organization, was incorrect. Wishful thinking by "The Animal?" "Batista" hints at a future cage fight to one of the TMZ drones in this video but alas, as of now, it's not to be -- though it probably wouldn't come as much of a surprise to see him join a roster that already has ex-WWE star Bobby Lashley and former NFL great Herschel Walker. Anyone think he'd make a welcome addition to combat sports? |
Jamie Varner: I respect Kamal Shalorus -- but WEC 49 draw was 'bogus' Posted: 21 Jun 2010 08:00 AM PDT Props: ESPN.com Quoteworthy:
Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner is unhappy with the decision in his three round war with Kamal Shalorus in the main event of WEC 49 last Sunday night at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The "Prince of Persia" was docked a point for his ball-busting kicks in a performance that "C-4" feels should have gone his way. Instead, the judges ruled it a draw. Do you agree with the outcome? |

Hammer camp: Commission docs said Matt Hamill's staph 'posed no threat' to anyone at TUF 11 Finale Posted: 21 Jun 2010 06:45 AM PDT Props: MMA Fighting Quoteworthy:
Well folks, there you have it. Everyone competing at Saturday night's TUF 11 Finale is out of the woods. Duff Holmes, manager of Matt Hamill, got the green light from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to let the staph infected "Hammer" compete against Keith Jardine on June 19 in Las Vegas despite a visible "boil" protruding from his back before, during and after his three round bloodbath with "The Dean of Mean." Anyone think (based on what we saw) that maybe the doc's blew the call? Or is perception not necessarily reality? |
WEC 49 bonuses and awards for 'Varner vs Shalorus' on Versus Posted: 21 Jun 2010 06:32 AM PDT WEC 49: "Varner vs. Shalorus" from the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is officially in the books, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts. To the tune of $10,000 each -- a far cry from the 65k doled out after last month's WEC 48 pay-per-view broadcast. The WEC dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the promotion's first-ever pay-per-view card. No surprises here. In addition to their base salaries, the WEC awarded featherweight competitors Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin "Fight of the Night" for their thrilling, back-and-forth war of attrition. Also representing the 145-pound weight class was up-and-coming featherweight phenom Josh Grispi. His "Submission of the Night" was no "Fluke" against L.C. Davis, as the 14-1 prospect notched his fourth straight win under the WEC banner. Finally, former WEC bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland made some noise in his respective weight class with a "Knockout of the Night" bonus over Will Campuzano, making good on his promise to get back into the 135-pound title hunt.. Here are the special fight bonuses for WEC 49:
Again, each fighter received $10,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible. For complete WEC 49 results and blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action click here and here. |
