Spencer Fisher inks four-fight UFC contract, slated to meet Kurt Warburton at UFC 120

Gritty UFC lightweight veteran Spencer Fisher (23-6) has inked a four-fight contract extension and will likely face promotion newcomer Kurt Warburton (6-1) at the UFC 120 event from the O2 Arena in London, England via Spike TV on October 16.

KO Dynasty's Mickey Dubberly confirmed with MMAmania.com earlier today that signatures have not yet been obtained but that verbal agreements are in place for the upcoming match-up across the pond.

Fisher dropped back-to-back fights for the first time in his career when he was outpointed by German striker Dennis Siver last month at the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale in Las Vegas. Prior to that, "The King" took one too many elbows to the crown against Joe "Daddy" Stevenson at UFC 104 back in October 2009.

Those losses ended a three-fight winning streak for the Octagon veteran, who has 13 fights under the Zuffa banner dating back to his submission win over Thiago Alves in October 2005.

Trying to keep him out of the win column will be England's own Kurt Warburton.

The Wolfslair product cut his teeth primarily under the roof of Goshin Ryu MMA Championships in the United Kingdom before moving on to London's "Strike and Submit" and Olympian MMA Championships organizations.

Warburton has finished four of his six wins by technical knockout, including a 2007 doctor's stoppage over TUF 9 champion Ross "Real Deal" Pearson.

A similar performance over the venerable Fisher could go a long way in establishing his place in the UFC's 155-pound division.

UFC 120 is expected to feature a who's-who of British MMA stars including Michael "The Count" Bisping, Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy and John "The Hitman" Hathaway.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates to this still-developing fight card.

UFC 117: Junior dos Santos and Roy Nelson fighting to decide next heavyweight number one contender

Cain Velasquez is the UFC heavyweight number one contender and will likely fight defending champion Brock Lesnar later this year.

And win or lose, the promotion has already named an upcoming bout to determine which fighter will take his place as potential heir to the throne.

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that the recently announced top contender match-up between Junior dos Santos and Roy Nelson at UFC 117 will decide the next division number one contender when it goes down on August 7 from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

"Cigano" cemented his place among the heavyweight big guns after a string of impressive performances against the likes of former Pride FC star Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic at UFC 103, Gilbert Yvel at UFC 108, and most recently against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC on Versus 1.

The hard-hitting Brazilian is now right on the cusp of his first opportunity to fight for a world title. A win over Nelson at UFC 117, marking his sixth straight victory inside the Octagon, should finally put him over the hump.

But it won't be easy.

"Big Country" endeared himself to casual MMA fans (not really) by pounding out Kimbo Slice during The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 reality show.

After airmailing Brendan Schaub back to Denver at last December's TUF 10 Finale, the portly powerhouse put Stefan Struve on queer street at UFC Fight Night 21 back in March.

If Roy can somehow find a way to put a stop to Junior's meteoric rise up the heavyweight ranks, it will be the last stop on his improbable ascension to the top of the UFC heavyweight mountain.

No gut, no glory.

UFC 117 is set to be headlined by the middleweight title bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. Also featured will be perennial top welterweight contenders Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves along with another 170-pound showdown between Matt Hughes and Ricardo Almeida.

UFC Quick Quote: Dana White using 'freak show' to make an example out of James Toney

"We're going to make an example of James Toney. James Toney's been an accomplished fighter for many years, and he's training in mixed martial arts now. James Toney's a real fighter. Listen, James and I go back and forth, and he's mad at me right now, and he's going to be even more pissed off after what I just said. The reality is, I am not so delusional that I don't think anything can happen when two big guys get in there and start throwing punches. He's going to try to knock out Randy Couture that night. It's become this whole UFC vs. boxing thing. I said it before, and I'll say it again, always yapping about people who do ‘freak shows,’ I'm doing one."

UFC President Dana White talks to reporters (via MMAWeekly) about his UFC 118 match-up between Randy Couture and James Toney on August 28 in Boston. Will it be "Lights Out" for the portly pugilist? Or is Randy Couture going to be a victim of the sweet science? And does anyone want to take Dana to task for putting on a "freak show," or is it worth it for the opportunity to see Toney get silenced in "Beantown?"

Strikeforce considers Henderson vs 'Babalu' rematch as Hendo mulls light heavyweight return

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 07:12 AM PDT

Former PRIDE and UFC star Dan Henderson was expected to do great things back in April when he made his much-ballyhooed debut under the Strikeforce banner against Jake Shields in the main event  of "Saturday Night Fights" on CBS.

And while Shields was counting the days until his promotion release, he obviously was in no hurry to surrender his 185-pound title.

"Hendo" battered the Cesar Gracie disciple en route to a dominant first round in their middleweight championship fight. Shields recovered between rounds and did some dominating of his own, controlling Henderson with a relentless wrestling attack and suffocating top game.

Following his unanimous decision defeat, "Dangerous Dan," who turns 40 this August, commented on his difficulty in making the 185-pound weight limit.

And according to recent comments from Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, there may not be much weight to cut in his next appearance, currently under consideration for the 205-pound weight class in a rematch against Renato Sobral.

From Coker, courtesy of MMA Weekly:

"Dan I believe when I talked to him over the weekend, I talked to Jordan, his manager, and they said they probably want to fight at 205 instead of 185. (They) felt that the weight cut was too much, and Dan would welcome to fight Babalu again, Gegard Mousasi, for a 205-pound contender's bout. I don't think you'll see Dan in the 185-pound tournament, although stranger things have happened in MMA, right? We haven't finalized it, but I would think the top two guys, Babalu and Gegard, depends on what happens with Gegard, but I think a fight between Babalu and Dan is something we might pursue in the very near future."

Henderson narrowly beat the Brazilian under the RINGS banner way back in February 2000. And "Babalu" wants a chance to prove that ten years later, he is the better fighter.

Sobral wasted little time in calling Henderson out following his unanimous decision win over "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler back on June 16 in Los Angeles. It was his first win under the Strikeforce banner since coughing up the light heavyweight title to Gegard Mousasi last August.

While nothing is official at this time, few "names" outside of Sobral and Mousasi are available for Henderson. "The Dreamcatcher" is booked for the DREAM light heavyweight tournament on July 10 and may be locked up for the remainder of the year if he successful overseas.

That could pave the way for Henderson vs. Sobral in late summer or early fall.

Stay tuned.
