Impact FC results and quick recap for 'Uprising 2' on July 18 in Sydney

Impact FC staged another "Uprising" late Saturday night/early Sunday morning when it brought a cast of MMA notables to its July 18 pay-per-view from the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

Leading the charge "Down Under" was former UFC and PRIDE heavyweight Pedro Rizzo, bagging and tagging Ken Shamrock with little-to-no resistance.

People may find it kind of sad that Shamrock still competes well into his forties despite losing eight of his last ten bouts, but what's really sad is that after 17 years in the fight game, "The World's Most Endangered Man" is incapable of checking a leg kick.

"The Rock" coasted to a first round TKO -- and barely broke a sweat in the process.

Speaking of sweaty Brazilians, Paulo Filho put his weigh-in troubles behind him to face off against Denis Kang. Unfortunately the results were inconclusive as the fight ended in a split draw after three rounds of back-and-forth action.

UFC exile Paul Daley got back into the win column with a TKO victory over a very game Daniel Acacio. "Semtex" sliced his way to a verbal tap out in the third round after landing a nasty elbow from the Brazilian's guard.

In other action, Murilo "Ninja" Rua took a submission win over Jeremy May, Jesse Taylor forced Murilo Bustamante to call it quits and Glover Teixeira lit up Marko Peseli for a first round TKO stoppage.

Richie "Vas" Vaculik def. Glenn Taylor-Smith via submission (rear-naked choke) R2, 4:16

Stay tuned for more action from Impact FC as they bring their next "Uprising" from Rio de Janeiro in September.

UFC Quick Quote: Cain Velasquez preparing to go five rounds with Brock Lesnar

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 11:30 AM PDT

"... the referee isn’t going to be quick to stop the fight.... I can’t just stand there in front of him with no movement and let him explode for a double [-leg takedown].... The wrestling is going to be a big part of it. He’s primarily a wrestler and I come from a wrestling background. But the fight will come down to everything. I expect there will be boxing, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and wrestling.... [But] I’m going to have to follow the game plan to perfection."

-- Number one heavyweight contender, Cain Velasquez, tells Dave Meltzer at Yahoo! Sports that he's working hard in the gym, getting ready to go 25 hairy minutes with division champion, Brock Lesnar, at UFC 21 on Oct. 23. After Shane Carwin failed to finish Lesnar, hitting him with everything but the kitchen sink, Velasquez -- whose punching power leaves much to be desired -- knows that his speed, conditioning and all around mixed martial arts skills are what will carry him to victory. But will it be enough ... especially for a man giving up more than 20 pounds in size and strength on fight night?

Impact FC weigh in results from Sydney

Impact FC is back for the second time this month with part two of their mixed martial arts debut "Down Under" featuring a collection of former UFC and PRIDE veterans set to throw hands on July 18 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

All fighters set to compete on this weekend's "Uprising 2" card made their respective weights, and far as shenanigans go, Paulo Filho did not disappoint.

As Jordan Breen reports from Sydney, the maligned middleweight enigma, looking "gaunt and sucked out," missed weight on his first attempt -- which didn't come until 20 minutes after the last fighter weighed in.

After an hour long trip back to the sauna, a depleted "Ely" returned to the scale in his birthday suit. He clocked in at 186, but there's no telling what his condition may be for tomorrow's contest against Denis Kang.

Report: Jake Shields could face Martin Kampmann in UFC welterweight debut

Posted: 17 Jul 2010 07:34 AM PDT

Shields-kampmann_medium

With Jake Shields UFC debut practically a foregone conclusion, the wheels are in motion to find him a suitable opponent for his return to the 170-pound division.

Not as easy as it sounds.

A quick run through the SB Nation top ten rankings will yield plenty of suitors; however, everyone with a spot high enough on the totem pole to welcome the former Strikeforce and Elite XC champion has already secured a date to the big dance.

That leaves Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago -- and the Dane already disposed of the crafty Brazilian at UFC 115 just last month, effectively securing his position as the last man standing.

And a win over Shields would likely ease some of the pain he felt when his desired opponent, Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy, was paired up with Carlos Condit for the upcoming UFC 120 event across the pond.

MMA Fighting is reporting that "sources close to the situation" have pegged "The Hitman" as Shields first opponent and that UFC 121 in Anaheim is "a likely possibility."

The Cesar Gracie product has remained undefeated over five years across the span of 14 fights. Some of his most recent victims include Dan Henderson, Robbie Lawler and Jason Miller.

Kampmann has done some damage himself, welcoming another high profile welterweight to the Octagon when former WEC stud Carlos Condit debuted at UFC Fight Night 19 back in April 2009.

In addition to the win over "Natural Born Killer," Kampmann is 13-2 since 2004 and like Shields, has also done time as a middleweight.

Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 -- how does that sound, Maniacs?

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for an official update from the UFC in the coming days.
